JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Mental Health Specialist functions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team program with shared caseloads and assists participating individuals who have serious and persistent mental illness in developing and maintaining viable living, working and social situations in the community by obtaining needed medical, social, psychosocial, educational, financial, vocational and other services. Has lead responsibility for integrating family goals and services with the tasks of all team members and for providing family psycho-education individually and in groups. Participates in the provision of crisis intervention services to participants on an on-call basisChild Development Specialist The Child Development Specialist is assigned responsibilities involving providing individual and family services to increase parenting skills and enhance the developmental potential of young children and/or children with developmental and acquired disabilities. This includes assessing development in young children; developing and implementing public health prevention programs for parents and young children to enhance their opportunities for cognitive, personal-social, language, and motor development; and serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child development services.THIS IS A FIELD OPPORTUNITY.

MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1.   2. Provide counseling, treatment, rehabilitation, case management and support services in the community to mentally ill individuals.
  3. Assume primary clinical management responsibility for a caseload of young adults with serious and persistent mental illness, who may also have a co-occurring substance abuse or other disorder.
  4. Assume lead responsibility within the program for integrating family goals and services with the tasks of all program staff and for providing family psycho-education individually and in groups.
  5. Assist consumers in attaining or maintaining housing, employment, functional social relationships, and relief from psychiatric symptoms and side effects through medication management support.
  6. Assertive engagement and provision of mental health services in the community where the service population lives - up to 80% of weekly work schedule may involve fieldwork.
  7. On-call responsibility for individuals enrolled in the program.
  8. Provide all services in a culturally relevant and competent manner.
  9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date Case Records, including but not limited to progress notes, service plan and service plan reviews, assessments and contact logs within keeping of all-applicable OMH, Medicaid, and ICL Regulations and Guidelines.
  10. Provide support and psychoeducation to family members, friends and other collateral individuals.
  11. Provide referrals and engagement support for services not directly provided by the program, e.g., medical services, participation in psychosocial clubhouses and self-help groups, vocational training and placement, etc.
  12. Provide accurate and timely reports, within federal, state, and city regulatory and agency confidentiality guidelines, to other providers and agencies, e.g. housing, vocational, criminal justice, child welfare, etc.
  13. Participates in individual and group supervision, treatment team meetings, case conferences, in-service training and other staff development activities as assigned.
  14. Observes all ICL, OMH, and all other applicable rules, procedures or laws regarding the reporting of incidents, including the reporting of alleged child abuse and neglect.
  15. Reports to work consistently and on time.
  16. Other job-related duties that may be assigned.
CHILD DEVELOMPENT SPECIALISTESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  2. Conducts groups and workshops to educate parents in the area of child development through materials and curricula developed for this purpose.
  3. Provides developmental assessments of children birth through kindergarten-age; teach parents ways to enhance their child's developmental potential.
  4. Keeps confidential records and writes reports essential to this work.
  5. Assists in the selection, preparation, and distribution of materials on child development which will further the purpose of this program.
  6. Provides in-service training in the areas of child development and parenting to staff.
  7. Counsels individuals and families on topics related to parenting and child development.
  8. Recruits clients for child development programs through contracts with community organizations such as public health clinics, hospitals, child care centers, civic organizations, pediatricians and the news media.
  9. Collaborates with other community agencies as well as plans and conducts community wide efforts to promote the health, development, and behavioral wellbeing of young children and families.

  14. Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Team Leader/Program Director.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in one of the following disciplines: Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Pastoral Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation.Applicable professional license in field issued by NYS Education Department strongly preferred. Experience or training of at least one year in family assessment and intervention, psychoeducation and/or other family support services, including cognitive-behavioral strategies

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Ability to manage multiple projects, delegate tasks, and check on the completion of assigned tasks.
  2. Ability to manage resources which includes money, material, time, and people.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and flexibility
  4. Highly-developed clinical, engagement, and motivational skills;
  5. Experience with risk assessment and risk management;
  6. Track record of delivering quality treatment services to individuals with SMI
  7. Experience delivering treatment, rehabilitation and support services in the community;
  8. Proficient in computers and Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  9. Willingness and ability to use ICL supplied communication tools (e.g. computers, mobile telephone, fax, etc.) regularly in the course of conducting business.
  10. Ability to work with consumers/residents, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, consumers/residents, families, and the public.
  12. Ability to prepare accurate and timely documentation, reports and other written material as assigned using computers and computer software assigned
  13. Ability to understandand supportthe agency's mission, vision, standards and code of ethical behavior
