The basic function of the Estimator is to prepare complete estimates for assigned projects.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Estimator reports to and is directly accountable to the Chief Estimator.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Must have a Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent technical training.
Experience:
Required: 3 years of construction estimating. Preferred: 5 years of construction estimating.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:
Position requires advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control.
Position requires the ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
Proficient in On-Screen or other take-off software.
Use of estimating software such as MC@, Timerline, or other and be proficient in Excel.
Physical Requirements:
Body movements and senses required. Must be able to work under stressful deadline situations.
Working Conditions:
Work will be in a climate-controlled office with some time spent in field offices. Workdays will be from 8 to 10 hours per day. Will be strictly estimating, no project management is involved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Review and incorporate data from various sources to prepare estimate.
Review proposed specifications and drawings for estimate.
Maintain back-up figures for all estimates.
Track awarded contracts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures.
Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to particular bid/project as assigned.
Maintain files to working documents as back-up for estimating figures.
Interface with owner, A/E, and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits; procuring material, etc.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:
Incorporates data from various sources to prepare estimate.
Reviews specifications and drawings thoroughly.
Maintains back-up files for all estimates.
Tracks awarded contracts.
