UI Health Care's Marketing and Communications department has an opening for a skilled Application Developer to join the Digital & Web team. The Application Developer will partner in the analysis, design, implementation, and support of the development of these websites to serve our enterprise's patient care, research, and education goals.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide support for websites running on Drupal (versions 7-10), including site building, theming, and custom module development.
•Design, develop, and maintain web-based applications and pages for University of Iowa Health Care and its associated units. This may entail ensuring navigation and informational integrity, writing customized web applications (server- and client-side), interacting with SQL data sources, and attending to accessibility guidelines.
•Work closely with constituents in concept and project development while providing non-technical constituents with a technical perspective.
•Provide expertise in technical and architectural SEO.
•Implement WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards for all applications and web pages to make University of Iowa Health Care's web properties accessible.
•Document applications, systems, and procedures.
•Follow web-based trends, applications, and technologies to help the University of Iowa Health Care become a leader in technology integration.
Education Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1 year of relevant professional experience
- Proficiency with at least one modern (object-oriented) programming language (preferably PHP)
- Proficiency with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and SQL (preferably MySQL)
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Strong development and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts to any audience.
- Experience with all aspects of the lifecycle of a web application: wireframing, design, frontend, and backend.
- Understanding of web standards, web accessibility best practices
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as git/mercurial/svn (we use git)
- An advanced degree in a related field
- Strong design aesthetic and good understanding of best practices in digital typography and layout
- Experience working with Drupal (preferably versions 7, 8, and 9)
- Experience working with WordPress.
- Experience with CSS pre-processors (preferably SASS)
- Experience with C# and .NET.
- Experience with usability testing.
- Good understanding of SEO principles
- Knowledge of web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Site Search, etc.)
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 and WAI-ARIA
- Basic knowledge of Linux administration
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
