Senior Lead Engineer - Generative AI Engineering (Remote-Eligible) At Capital One, our mission is to create trustworthy, reliable, and inclusive AI systems that change banking for the better. We are looking for an experienced Senior Lead Engineer to join our Enterprise AI team and help build and maintain APIs and SDKs that enable training, fine-tuning, and access to AI models at scale. You will work with a team of world-class AI engineers and researchers to design and implement key API products and services, empowering real-time customer-facing applications. Your work will include architecting, building, and deploying well-managed core APIs and SDKs, designing APIs for performance, developing application-specific interfaces, enabling users to build new AI capabilities, and implementing AI safety and guardrails in the API layer. This is a remote position, offering flexibility and remote work options. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a technical field. - At least 8 years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing and cache optimization techniques. - At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java. - At least 3 years of experience building, scaling, and optimizing training and inferencing APIs for deep neural networks. Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with building large-scale AI products or platforms for NLP, speech, computer vision, or recommendation systems serving millions of users. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and competing priorities and deadlines. - Ability to collaborate and iterate rapidly with researchers and engineers to improve product experiences while building foundational capabilities. - Familiarity with deploying large neural network models in demanding production environments. - Experience with API security, observability, cloud access control, and privacy best practices.
