  • Assist in the overall financial closing duties and process:
  • Collaborate with multiple subsidiary companies to lead the completion of their period end financial close process including the recording of: period end accruals, depreciation/amortization, estimated taxes and intercompany/consolidation entries.
  • Review of Disbursements, Accounts Payable, Credit file and Misc. Receipts for coding problems at period end.
  • Review of corporate and departmental financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform an initial review on all assigned company balance sheet accounts and tie each assigned account balance to its supporting schedules.
  • Prepare periodic variance analysis for assigned accounts. Research unusual variances investigate with business owners and provide commentary to management.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple business units/departments.
  • Review general ledger activity.
  • Completion and review of monthly variance analyses.
  • Preparation of complete and accurate financial results.
  • Primary ownership of the accounting and review of Net Sales and Gross Profit, including the following:
  • Preparation of schedules for promotional funds, ad placement accrual funds, and private label accrual monies.
  • Test, correct, distribute, and interfacing of movement and purchase billbacks.
  • Preparation and/or accrual miscellaneous billbacks.
  • Testing movement and recording all internally sourced billbacks.
  • Analyze and prepare reports for retailer shortages, damage credits, warehouse damages and pallet transfers.
  • Monitor, manage and report on extraordinary sales credit issues.
  • Analyze daily inventory adjustments, order cycle counts when needed, accrue addbacks after period end, and ensure related vendor billbacks are completed.
  • Review material shortages and miscellaneous deductions in our Invoice Reconciliation (IR) software.
  • Review all vendor paybacks for proper accounting, approval and supporting documentation.
  • Review, research and correction of IR Open Payables at period end.
  • Ensure that all quarterly swell allowance credits, volume rebates and special promotional rebates are balanced and reviewed, then processed for customer credits and/or payments.
  • Reporting to Management of unusual variances from our targets/expectations.
  • Compile, report on and remit tobacco taxes for the various states we distribute to.
  • Calculate the interim and the year-end LIFO Tax and Book reserve balance
  • Assist in the evaluation of internal control ramifications for all new and/or changes to software applications, methods of conducting business, processes, etc.
  • Utilize to the corporation's fullest advantage the general ledger system - accounting, reporting, budgeting, allocations, and other features.
  • Manage special projects assigned by Corporate Controller
  • Assist external auditors with year-end audit, analysis, documentation, etc.
  • Monitor retailer credit and warehouse deletions.
