Summary:

Responsible for working with patients to insure the hospital receives patient balance due for all services rendered, while assisting the patient with any and all avenues of financial assistance available to them. Counsels patients on balance due and payment expectations. Initiates the collection of co-pay, co-insurance and deductible prior to admission or discharge. Accepts payments, posts payments to accounts and prepares daily drawer and deposit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patient financial discussions to assist with the resolution of the patient's account and to ensure compliance with hospital financial policies.
  • Completes pre-collection services for assigned area.
  • Completes a review of financial assistance applications and applies dollars accordingly. Adheres to the policies of the facility.
  • Follows up with patients on documentation requests and assists with paperwork completion.
  • Handles patient inquires relating to procedural costing, pre-collection services, explanation of benefits or any other pertinent questions.
  • Reviews bad debt file and completes final write offs.
  • Follows up on bankruptcy and estate notices. Files necessary paperwork.
  • Provides cashier duties, which includes handling, preparing and balancing cash drawer daily.
  • Complete necessary portion of deposit process.
  • Work with early out agency, bad debt agency, and Public Health to complete and send in 3 Day emergency paperwork.
  • Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.
  • Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees, and CCMH business.
  • Consistently reports to work at the scheduled time in a punctual manner and at the assigned job location.
  • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Professional Requirements:
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Comply with all organizational policies.
  • Conduct oneself as a professional in accordance with PRIDE values.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Prefer a minimum of 1 to 2 years related experience in a hospital/physician office setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal effectively with diverse range of professional and non-professional people.
  • Must have general working knowledge of computers and department specific software.
  • Bilingual Preferred
