General Description

This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Librarian or designee. The position performs routine library work assisting in one or more of the service areas in the county library system.

Essential Job Functions

1. Assists at the circulation desk according to established procedures. Provides circulation services to the public. Performs all circulation duties related to automated circulation desk operation.
2. Prepares and files circulation, financial, and other reports.
3. Maintains orderly flow of returned materials.
4. Assists in the search and recovery of library materials.
5. Monitors and replenishes supplies from centralized stock for staff and patrons.
6. Provides reader assistance in services to patrons under the direction of a professional Librarian.
7. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of the services and operations of the library system.
2. Knowledge of standard library clerical methods and practices.
3. Ability to communicate with patrons, supervisors, and the public.
4. Ability to interpret circulation policies and procedures to the public.
5. Ability to deal effectively with library patrons over the telephone and in person.
6. Ability to communicate clearly.
7. Ability to utilize business Mathematics and business English.
8. Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to work without close supervision.
10. Ability to make decisions within the framework of stated policies and procedures.
11. Ability to use judgement in performing library duties.
12. Ability to type 35 correct words per minute.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. One (1) year experience in clerical work.

(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS

1. Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

1. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
2. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to type at prescribed rate of speed.
5. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

ANNUAL (VACATION) LEAVE - All regular full-time employees assigned to a 37.50 work week will earn 90 hours to 150 hours, depending on classification and length of service. All regular full-time employees assigned to a 40 hour work week will earn 96 hours to 160 hours, depending on classification and length of service. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.

SICK LEAVE - All regular full-time employees will earn sick leave at a rate of 13 days per year. Regular part time employees will accrue sick leave on a pro-rata basis. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.
