About Aerospace Project Management Department Our core business involves developing custom optical systems for aerospace applications, including spaceborne, airborne, and ground-based systems for imaging, spectrography, laser communication, LiDAR, energy transfer, and more. We work with diverse clients, from NASA to emerging space startups, and excel in collaborating across disciplines to develop advanced technical systems within budget and schedule constraints. Our team includes optical, opto-mechanical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers working in a highly collaborative environment emphasizing communication and teamwork. What will you do? As a Project Manager based in San Diego, you will lead small to mid-sized engineering projects, support larger programs, and serve as the main client contact. Responsibilities include managing scope, schedule, and budget; delegating tasks; ensuring quality; mentoring junior staff; and applying technical expertise to complex projects. Strong communication, leadership, and time management skills are essential in this dynamic, fast-paced environment. Essential Job FunctionsProject Execution - Manage all project phases from conception to completion, including proposal, planning, performance management, and delivery. - Collaborate with engineering to define technical approaches aligned with project constraints. - Plan staffing and track costs against budgets. - Manage suppliers and subcontractors. - Resolve issues or nonconformances promptly. - Communicate with clients and organize project meetings. - May perform engineering tasks such as design, analysis, hardware build, and testing. Staff Leadership - Provide performance feedback to engineers and managers. - Foster a collaborative and transparent work environment. - Mentor Project Administrators if applicable. Sales - Assist in proposal development, including scope, costs, schedule, and technical content. Training and Continuous Improvement - Promote a culture of process improvement by evaluating and enhancing project management methodologies and tools. Location - Based in San Diego with a hybrid work schedule, subject to change based on business needs. What are we looking for? Required BSc in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Optical, Electrical, or similar) 6+ years in Aerospace Optical Systems or related fields Experience managing interdisciplinary engineering teams Strong communication and customer interaction skills Understanding of engineering fundamentals Positive attitude and willingness to learn Must be a US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident) Preferred Experience with proposal development (lead or assist) Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: $104,190.23 - 170,245.47, plus benefits and potential bonuses.
