Provides financial counseling for scheduled procedures and assists clinical staff with required insurance referrals and authorizations. Responsible for responding to customer inquiries and CBO daily functions related to patient payments and resolving patient account balances. Follows CBO payment plan and collection protocols. Works assigned accounts receivable for patient balance follow-up. Strives to achieve targeted benchmarks and exceed collection goals for prompt account resolution. Communicates timely and appropriately with CBO leadership team to identify and resolve payer/claim coverage issues. Performs assigned duties independently with minimal guidance from manager or team leader.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate or equivalent and college degree preferred.
- Experience working in medical office and/or hospital billing environment.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical tasks.
- Knowledge of insurance claims processing and managed care plan benefits.
- Understands the purpose of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and Revenue Codes.
- Knowledge of UB-04 and/or CMS 1500 claims and electronic claims submission.
- Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skill.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Understand the ethics of confidentiality and healthcare compliance.
- Average computer and data entry skills as required in the healthcare industry.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications effectively (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments daily and provide exquisite customer service.
- Able to sit and maintain work focus for extended periods of time.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to meet necessary meeting, training, and work schedules.
- Must have adequate perception of sounds or adequate hearing with corrections.
- Adequate vision, or correctable with glasses/contacts, to prepare reports and read written materials.
- Able to speak clearly and distinctly with staff, physicians, patients, and families.
- Able to hear and converse with others on the phone.
- Ability to communicate well with people in person, in writing, and on the phone.
- Demonstrates the ability to understand written instruction, make decisions and accomplish tasks in a high work volume environment to meet the necessary deadlines.
- Demonstrates adequate vision to read and prepare documents accurately.
- Possess motor skills and coordination to effectively use computers and office equipment.
