Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:Under the supervision of the Camp Branch Director, the City Camp Site Director is responsible for general oversight and leadership of camp operations and KDHE regulations. This position will model and teach the YMCA values and execute day to day responsibilities to create a safe, welcoming, and fun summer experience for staff and participants.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

Location with 31-60 children/youth
  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. High school Diploma / GED required.
  3. Minimum of 15 hrs of academic credit or 6 months job-related experience working with children required.
  4. Supervisory experience required.
Location with 61-120 children/youth
  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. High school Diploma / GED required.
  3. Minimum of 60 hrs of academic credit or 12 months job related experience working with children required or has combination of 30 academic credit hours and 6 months of job-related experience.
  4. Supervisory experience required.
Location with 121+ children/youth
  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university and has job related experience.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities as dictated by camp activity; run, jump climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk, and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
  2. Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
  3. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, and the desire to work with all ages.
  4. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
  5. Must always present a neat and professional appearance.
Job Requirements:
  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values.
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation and meet applicable KDHE requirements within 30 days of hire.
  3. Current certification in Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid
  4. Complete Listen First Workshop and KDHE Health and Safety trainings as applicable to current regulations and in accordance with Conditions of Employment.
  5. Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association and regulatory agencies.
  6. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch, including evenings and weekends.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Development:
  1. Developing and maintaining personal relationships that inspire trust and confidence. Assisting staff with meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for their development.
  1. Providing feedback to the direct supervisor for end-of-season performance reviews and conducting direct reports reviews in accordance with guidelines provided.
  2. Assisting and guiding staff to support positive behavior management as well as staff and child relationships.
Program Operations:
  1. Effectively communicating the mission, vision, and values of the Wichita YMCA.
  2. Ensuring program compliance with YMCA and KDHE standards and regulations.
  3. Planning, implementing, and facilitating camp programs at designated location. Providing guidance to camp counselors to ensure they are actively participating and engaged.
  4. Anticipating and minimizing potential problems with staff, campers, or environment and responding effectively to problems that occur. Applying camp policies and procedures respectfully when responding and/or disciplining staff and campers.
  5. Responding quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents. Assisting in investigations as required or requested. Accurately preparing and submitting documentation and incident reports in a timely manner.
  6. Assisting and directing staff in executing established procedures for supervision of youth and activities including but not limited to transportation, group time, lunch, swimming, etc.
  7. Assisting with emergency drills and debriefing staff and campers after each drill as assigned. Maintaining accurate documentation as required for regulatory agencies.
Fiscal Management:
  1. Maintaining clean and organized storage of equipment and materials to prevent loss.
  2. Providing timely supply requests and overseeing use of materials and equipment to prevent waste.
Strong Community Campaign:
  1. Providing leadership for assigned aspects of Strong Community Campaign, special events and other fund development to ensure fundraising goals are met.
  2. Engaging and actively participating in the annual campaign, including but not limited to solicitation of donations and facilitation of impact tours.
Facilities Development:
  1. Maintaining complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
  2. Maintaining program area and equipment in an orderly, clean, and safe condition; reporting any irregularities to facility Branch Director or other designated staff and the direct supervisor
Other:
  1. Communicating information promptly to all branch leadership and departmental staff.
  2. Attending applicable training to further professional development.
  3. As part of the camp team will be accountable for the extent that camp meets or exceeds quality and satisfaction targets as evidenced by the youth/parent and staff surveys.


EFFECT ON END RESULT: Ensuring youth and staff feel positive and look forward to coming to the YMCA program. Ensuring parents are pleased with the growth and development of children, positively affecting overall program success.
