Welder II Position Epsilon Systems is seeking a full time Welder II in Portsmouth, VA. Performs various welding processes to repair, modify and install various pipes, structures, foundations and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Reports directly to the Production Manager and project Foreman in the performance of responsibilities. Adheres to corporate, federal, state and local safety regulations. Reads and interprets blueprints to plan setup and operation of the machine shop equipment. Lays out material prior to performing machining operations. Machines parts to close tolerances. Maintains good housekeeping practices. Ensures that all requirements of the Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Quality Assurance Manual are followed. Follows detailed repair procedures and instructions. Notifies Foreman of any unsatisfactory conditions identified during the production operation. Reads and understands basic terminology, blueprints, drawings and schematics to plan installation, modification or repair. Fabricates and installs fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during welding processes. Selects welding filler materials, joint design, proper heat ranges and most effective or required welding process/procedure to ensure quality welding operations. Ensures control and assumes responsibility for Level I material controls. Selects proper materials and requirements to perform welding functions. Performs work outside of trade if necessary. Qualifications: High school diploma/equivalent. Three years' experience working under a skilled welder. Knowledge of the trade qualifications and performs as an Welder II. Ability to understand and perform the basic set up, adjustment, and operation of various welding equipment and hand tools used in the trade. Ability to properly select welding filler material, joint design and proper heat ranges as directed by Technical Work Documents. Ability to use grinding and cutting tools. Communicates effectively, work independently or in a group. Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Ability to read and understand basic terminology, blueprints, drawings and schematics to plan installation, modification or repair prior to commencing the process. Ability to perform the following hot work operations: Plasma Arc Cutting, Carbon Arc Cutting, Oxygen/Acetylene Cutting, SMAW. Must be qualified in a minimum of 5 welding/brazing processes. Ability to obtain and maintain access to US Navy ships and government/private facilities. Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional and loud noises. Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships). Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight. Must have manual and finger dexterity; able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects. Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors. May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
