Overview:

Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Bridge and Structures team in our Southfield, MI office

Bridges are an integral part of our transportation system and that is why we employ nationally recognized design engineers and professionals with extensive experience in both maintenance and rehabilitation. Our professionals understand the needs of our clients because many of them come from the industry, including state DOTs (Department of Transportation), Class 1 railroads, and members of national boards and technical committees. The work setting is highly collaborative with structured mentoring from a team of seasoned engineers.

Responsibilities:
  • Work on various projects including new or rehabilitated highway, rail, and pedestrian bridges and culverts, retaining walls and temporary structures for contractors
  • Lead the technical design of bridge projects, developing work plans for various bridge designs, coordinate with other interfacing disciplines, and perform calculations, computer modeling, design and drawing reviews, cost estimating, develop specifications/construction documents and lead construction phase support tasks
  • Participate in the development and updates of internal standards of practices
  • Perform quality control and assurance checks on design computations, computer modeling, CAD drawings, reports, estimates and specifications
  • May serve as a point of contact for clients, other design professionals, and contractors
  • May act as quality coordinator for discipline led projects
  • May assist in the development of technical narratives, scope and fee for project pursuits
  • May serve on professional association committees for establishment of policies, standards, procedures, and research at a local, state, or national level
  • May stamp/sign drawings or reports and/or serve as Engineer of Record for the project
  • Assist in the mentoring and development of design staff
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required
  • 5+ years of relevant bridge/structure design experience is preferred
  • PE licensed or working towards licensure is preferred
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Strong work ethic and willingness for continued learning
  • Knowledge of MDOT and AASHTO design codes required; knowledge of AREMA design codes is a plus
