Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company's first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse - an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
Hermeus is seeking a Senior Software or Site Reliability Engineer to join the Information Team and take charge of building infrastructure for our business-critical development and test facilities to help accelerate our iteration speed on hardware development and testing. You will work closely with avionics and aerospace engineering teams to design and implement infrastructure that helps engineers reliably develop and test hardware and software in-the-loop systems. Data generated from engineering test will be fed into our engineering data lake and you will work with data producers and consumers to empower best-in-class analytics. This work encompasses our remote test facilities and engineering facilities such as our engine test sites, Flight Deck mobile aircraft control center, and engineering offices. As a Software Engineer at Hermeus you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust digital infrastructure and facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the availability, scalability, and security of our systems, contributing to the company's overall success.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to building user-facing computing systems that allow for simple but reliable development of hardware and software.
- Work with 3rd party software vendors to meet the operational needs of business/engineering operations at Hermeus.
- Build standardized data infrastructure to allow for reliable hardware/software testing performance analysis across teams.
- Design and implement general infrastructure improvements, ensuring high availability and performance in the cloud and on the edge (hybrid environments). Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues in a timely manner.
- Work with our security team to implement security best practices and policies to protect the digital infrastructure and sensitive data.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of infrastructure and procedures. Hold design reviews, share knowledge/best practices with team members and customers, develop trainings
- Strong background in systems engineering to help design reliable test systems and increase safety of Hermeus' assets.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in Software Engineering that can break down application development into organized, collaborative-coding projects with unit tests. DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Gitlab, Docker, Git, infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and tools.).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, C++). Networking and Security principles.
- Experience with building Internet of Things (IoT) solutions using microcomputers, microcontrollers, I/O protocols such as Ethernet networking and serial/usb communication to provide computation on the edge.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environments.
- Experience using SQL-like languages to interact with Databases and data modeling.
- Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, their configuration, and administration.
If you are a talented Software Engineer who enjoys building high-tech facilities and has a passion for developing engineer-tooling that empowers individuals to do the most with their time. Join our team at Hermeus and help us build a faster future.
Hermeus understands that valuing diverse creative practices and forms of knowledge are crucial to and enrich the company's core mission.
We encourage applications from everyone, including members of all equity-seeking communities, such as (but certainly not limited to) women, racialized and Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions
