The Family-Adult Peer Support Specialist (FAPSS) provides education and support to families of individuals 18 and older with mental health conditions so they may become full partners in the assessment, treatment planning, and evaluation of the services they or their family member require to address their mental health needs. This work is done by providing one on one (1:1) short-term support, engaging families in NAMI NH support and education programs, and building professional relationships in the identified region to support families in the region and enhance referrals to NAMI NH programs.
This role will be based out of NAMI NH headquarters in Concord, NH but the work will be physically located at Community Partners, with locations in Rochester/Dover, NH. The successful candidate will be providing support and resources to families of those impacted by mental illness.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Programmatic
* Provide 1:1 time-limited support to family members of individuals 18 and older with mental health conditions. Through these services, individuals are offered education, information, and support related to mental illness, self-care, and skill development needed to navigate and advocate within the systems of care.
* Demonstrate in their work a commitment to the system of care values and guiding principles.
* Promote the family perspective and knowledge about mental health needs through public presentations and professional trainings; provide educational materials and speak to various regional community groups about mental illness, stigma, and NAMI NH programs.
* Identify and recruit family leadership candidates and connect them with a Family Leadership Training Program.
* Recruit, provide, and ensure training/orientation and support to family leaders in a role of their choice.
* Provide training and technical assistance to community mental health center staff on family peer support and family engagement.
* Work to eliminate stigma and end discrimination regarding mental health for all individuals and their families.
* Serve on workgroups, advisory councils, and committees as assigned.
* Execute all tasks required to meet contractual agreements with the regional organization under the contract. Stay current on knowledge of community resources.
* Attend workshops and trainings as assigned by supervisor to continue professional growth.
Administrative
* Participate in program team and supervisory meetings and seek consultation when needed from a supervisor.
* Collect, organize, and provide all data related to the position in a timely manner, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with all state and federal laws, including HIPAA
* Other duties as assigned.
Community
* Demonstrate effective outreach and promotion of NAMI NHs support, education, and leadership programs and NAMI NHs public policy platform.
* Attend regional community events/meetings to generate community partners and reciprocity among other community agencies/programs.

Physical and Travel
* While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to talk or hear along with frequently standing; walking; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
* Occasional travel may be necessary.
* It may be necessary to work some evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
* Lived Experience having a personal experience as a family member of an adult with a mental health condition and has the experience of the process of working towards family recovery empowerment.
* Not required but a preferred minimum of a bachelors degree in psychology, mental health, social work, human services, or related field.
* Not required but preferred three years work experience in the human service or mental health field providing direct service.
* Knowledge of community resources and experience navigating the mental health and related systems of care.
* Ability to use a computer to develop, track, transfer, and access information related to work.
* Has available, reliable transportation and willing to travel, and have a flexible schedule.
* Consideration is given for formal education and/or agrees to or has completed NAMI NHs Leadership Programs.
