We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our dynamic software development team in designing, developing, and deploying manufacturing execution software (MES) solutions tailored to our battery cell manufacturing operations. In this role, you will oversee the development of custom software modules, integration with third-party systems, and the deployment of software systems to multiple gigafactories, ensuring seamless operation and optimization of our manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, system architects, and integration specialists in the development and deployment of manufacturing execution software solutions for battery cell manufacturing.
  • Strategy: Define and drive the engineering strategy, roadmap, and priorities for software development, integration, and deployment initiatives, aligning with business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, automation, quality, platform, IT, to gather requirements, define workflows, and architect solutions that optimize production efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Integration: Oversee the integration of third-party systems, such as ERP, MES, PLM, into the manufacturing execution software ecosystem, ensuring seamless data exchange and interoperability.
  • Deployment: Manage the deployment of software systems to multiple gigafactories, coordinating with site teams, IT infrastructure, and vendors to ensure successful installation, configuration, and commissioning.
  • Quality: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software development processes, quality assurance, and performance optimization, leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Excellence: Provide technical leadership and guidance in troubleshooting complex issues, resolving system integration challenges, and implementing robust solutions to meet production demands.
  • Networking: Partner with senior leadership to contribute to strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and technology investments to support business growth and innovation.

Qualifications And Experience

  • 15+ years leading software engineering in manufacturing, deploying mission-critical solutions.
  • Extensive experience in software architecture, design patterns, and technologies including IoT, cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure), databases, and programming languages (e.g. Golang, Python).
  • Skilled in project management, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering on time, within budget.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, engaging effectively with executives, partners, and teams.

Specific skills

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly in battery cell manufacturing or related industries, including systems such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Quality management systems (QMS), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
  • Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES): Experience in developing MES software solutions to streamline production processes, improve efficiency, and ensure quality control in battery manufacturing.
  • Automation and Robotics: Knowledge of software systems for automating manufacturing processes and integrating robotics for assembly, testing, and packaging of batteries.
