JOB SUMMARYResponsible for dispensing and controlling both prescription and non-prescription medicine, coordinating drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for the retail pharmacy. Is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug and patient care. Provide clinical drug information and advice about health issues, symptoms and medications in response to customer inquiries. Training and managing staff.DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOverall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies as well as perform these tasks in the Ambulatory Setting.Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.Administer approved CDC immunizations as requestedEDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTSMinimum requirement:Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or PharmD degreeKnowledge of TJC, USP 797, 795, and 800, and federal and state regulationsKentucky Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist licenseOhio Pharmacist license obtained within 90 days of hireAchieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support within first 90 days of employment.Preferred qualifications:Hospital and acute care experience preferredPGY-1 residency from an ASHP accredited programWORKING ENVIRONMENTConstantly works near moving mechanical partsConstantly exposed toblood and/or body fluids andinfection.Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicalsOccasionally exposed to risk of radiationThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.PHYSICAL DEMANDSOccasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).Frequently required to walk and move about.Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
