Position : Technical Technology Architect Project(s) Duration : 3 years Location : Hybrid - Boston, MA - 02118 Position Summary : The Technology Architect role is intended to be a key player in this modernization effort. While we are prioritizing hiring a Solution Architect, we're interested in someone who also has experience as a Technical Architect and is comfortable getting into the weeds of technical decision-making if necessary. This role would not be responsible for directly managing an engineering team and would primarily partner with and direct implementing vendors. Responsibilities : As a Technology Architect, you will provide technical leadership, support, and direction to the client and its external vendor teams who are implementing and/or maintaining a product for the client. The Technology Architect will report to the Associate Deputy Commissioner of Technology, Analytics, and Digital Transformation (“Client”), who oversees the Agency's technology modernization, digital transformation, and data analytics initiatives. Objectives : The client anticipates kicking off implementation for a new Salesforce application in July 2024 and is currently in the procurement and planning stages. In your first few months, you'll have the opportunity to help set the foundation for the client's success. The list below outlines key objectives for this role as it relates to preparing for, supporting, and transitioning from the client's implementation. #1 Software Architecture & Technical Leadership : Define the technical architecture and direction for the client's new Salesforce application, a cloud-based solution for professional licensing and inspection. Establish working agreements between the client and the software implementation vendor's technical teams. Ensure vendors execute the technical vision and deliver high-quality software and solutions. Refine the solution architecture in partnership with the selected implementing vendor during the initial implementation stages. #2 Technology and Solution Leadership : Work with the client's Product Manager to finalize a product roadmap and refine the solution approach based on user research and business process optimization. Collaborate with the client's product manager and vendor technical/product leads to define and estimate development, QA, and other workstreams. Plan implementation efforts and help define and iterate on the solution’s future technical roadmap. #3 Engineering Practices & Alignment with Other Departments : Set and enforce engineering processes and tooling to empower technical staff and ensure project success. Ensure environments are set up according to standards. Collaborate with different department technical leadership to align your product's technical direction with the client's standards. Coordinate with the client and its vendors to determine an appropriate organizational structure to support ongoing production and operations. Qualifications : Leadership and Communication : Proven ability to lead development teams and report to executives. Capable of providing guidance and setting direction related to advanced technical concepts. Large-Scale Web Applications : Experience working with large-scale web applications, ideally having held a senior technical role on at least one large-scale software project. Modern Tools and Programming Languages : Deep hands-on experience with, familiarity with, and willingness to learn modern tools and programming languages, including:

Salesforce (License and Permit Management, broader CRM platform capabilities) REST API frameworks in various languages RDBMS and NoSQL databases, cloud-based and data warehouses CI/CD and DevOps tools, particularly Jira Automated testing frameworks and tools Mobile application frameworks (e.g., React, Xamarin, Salesforce Einstein)

External Vendor Management : Experience working on projects with external vendors, advocating for the client, and ensuring high-quality software delivery. Technical Depth : Ability to see the big picture and dive into the details of software development, data engineering, analytics, QA processes, and User Experience (UX). Preferred : Experience in both waterfall and agile software delivery methodologies. Knowledge of SaaS and IaaS: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Salesforce cloud, Snowflake, and others. Expertise in performance testing and tuning. 4o
