Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides direct patient care in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with providers about changes in patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department. Participates in performance improvement activities and quality assurance.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  2. Ability to care for antenatal patients and monitor for complications and change in status.
  3. Ability to assess and care for low and high-risk patients in labor, during delivery, and postpartum setting and address any change in condition. Also capable of managing care of 2 labor patients.
  4. Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother/baby unit.
  5. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines. Will complete newborn resuscitation competency within 90 days of hire and recertify quarterly.
  6. Ability to perform, on admission, a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.
  7. Ability to implement a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of teaching (family is included as appropriate).
  8. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patients' response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  9. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skill necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately and promptly. Completes intermediate or advanced AWHONN and maintains current by recertifying every 2 years.
  11. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and providers.
  12. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for the interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  13. Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.
  14. Demonstrates and ability to assist providers with procedures in the perinatal unit.
  15. Demonstrates and ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergent situations.
  16. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  17. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  18. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formations of the plan of care. Reevaluates plan of care each shift.
  19. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department, with other departments, and with other facilities.
  20. Written and computer documentation meet current standards and polices. Documents in QS system accurately and per AWHONN standards.
  21. Identifies and addressed psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  22. Participates in performance improvement activities and quality assurance projects.
  23. Manages and operates all equipment safely and correctly. Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  24. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, staff meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice in ongoing education. Attends of staff meetings.
  25. Demonstrates the ability to use Healthstream and completes assigned modules.
  26. Demonstrates the ability to access the Polices and Procedures on the Hospital Intranet.
  27. Communicates effectively in English. Bilingual skill is beneficial.
  28. Able to act as scrub technician and circulating nurse during operative procedures in the perinatal unit operating room. Required to scrub a case every 6 months to maintain competency and complete a competency skills pass off at skills lab biannually.
  29. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  30. Reads emails weekly.
  31. Meets requirement for quarterly bonuses.
  32. Able to orient new labor nurses and precept students.
EMPLOYEES MAY BE REQUIRED TO FULFILL OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITES ON A TEMPORARY BASIS OR TO EXPAND CURRENT DUTIES BY UPDATING THE POSITION DESCRIPTON.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho. Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated: BLS Healthcare Provider at the time of hire or within 14 days of employment Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 6 months of hire. AWHONN Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practice prior to completion of labor orientation. To recertify must take twice in classroom setting and then may take online ACLS within 6 months of hire PALS within 1 year of hire. March, 2020 Page 2 of 8 Mountain View Hospital STABLE within 1 year of hire. A minimum of one year labor experience Complete labor and Maternal Newborn orientation competency within 90 days of hire, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency. Completed QMP OB certification Working knowledge of the human anatomy and its application to the well and sick perinatal patient.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year labor and postpartum experience. Equipment/Technology: Basic Computer Skills. Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc. Language/Communication: Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages.

Mental Capabilities: Possess critical thinking and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome.
