Level 1:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;

Masters degree of Library Science

5 years library experience

5 years managerial and supervisory experience

Level 2:

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;

Masters degree of Library Science

NM 100 Level Administrative License

10 years library experience

10 years managerial and supervisory experience

Skills/Aptitudes:

Good organizational ability; good written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Essential Job Responsibilities of Library Manager:

  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior.
  • Follows district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  • Follows District Code of Conduct policies.
  • Maintains behavior appropriate to performing and accomplishing assigned duties.
  • Maintains a suitable personal appearance as it relates to position.
  • Promotes an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
  • Plans for and manages the resources for which he/she is responsible, including personnel, finances, facilities program and time.
  • Communicates accurately and effectively.
  • Uses supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to improve the program of the district.
  • Demonstrates leadership.
  • Complies with all School Board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains a full and working knowledge of automated library systems.
  • Is knowledgeable of library services and able to answer reference questions.
  • Ensures all materials are cataloged. Maintains knowledge on new cataloging standards and rules.
  • Oversees, trains and assists staff in periodical, copy, and record update cataloging.
  • Keeps updated statistics and usage records.
  • Is responsible for assessment and evaluation of library standards and services.
  • Maintains "Reserve" shelf; monitors item usage in accordance with copyright and communicates with faculty regarding the usage.
  • Checks requests for book orders and search information prior to purchasing.
  • Reviews materials for possible acquisition and maintains updated knowledge of review sources and new publications.
  • Reviews online databases and new materials for acquisition.
  • Manages new books and weekly/monthly displays and bulletin boards.
  • Supervises weeding of outdated materials and inventory.
  • Monitors shelving done by staff.
  • Oversees collection of fines, replacement of lost library materials, and donations of new library materials.
  • Is able to assist students with basic school related tasks.
  • Maintains open membership and communication with professional organizations necessary to the success and advancement of services provided in the library.
  • Promotes library services and provides instruction in the use library resources.
  • Assists with library programs and events as needed.
  • Conducts on-going assessment to identify needs within the district for use in planning and budgeting.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
