Supervised by Executive Director
Job Purpose
The purpose of this job is to provide leadership for and management to the Next Generation Scholars’ Shore Way to College program which seeks to increase the percentage of eligible students entering a four or two-year college or university who are prepared to receive the Guaranteed Access Grant. The project director will work with the targeted students, their parents, related staff, higher education officials and community and business partners to help the students achieve their higher education goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Full time salaried employment serving as a Project Director for It Takes a Village to Help Our Children, Inc. to support their Next Generation Scholars, Shore Way to College Program. The Project Director is responsible for the day-to-day program operations, including, coordinating the Shore Way to College Program at all locations, including, Crisfield High School, Washington High School, It Takes a Village Youth Center and the Garland Hayward Youth Center. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Coordinate all Shore Way to College program activities at each target school and youth centers
Create and maintain a master schedule of Shore Way to College program activities
Assist the Executive Director and School Administrators in identifying the pre- qualified target students for the Shore Way to College program
Recruit and retain Shore Way to College program participants
Ensure Shore Way to College program activities are designed to assist students in increasing their college awareness
Ensure Shore Way to College program activities are designed to help students improve their academic achievement, including GPA in core subjects
Ensure Shore Way to College program activities are designed to increase parent engagement and college awareness
Coordinate Shore Way to College in-school and after school activities with school administrators, guidance counselors, College Coaches and Tutors
Oversee College Coaches at target schools to assist students in creating college and career plans
Oversee implementation of curriculum at each youth center to increase college awareness
Oversee Tutors at target schools to assist students in increasing academic achievement in core subject areas
Coordinate with Site Directors at each Youth Center to oversee College Coaches and Tutors at It Takes a Village and Garland Hayward Youth Centers
Coordinate with First Generation College Bound staff to deliver student workshops, staff training and student tracking database
Oversee the tracking of all Shore Way to College participants and activities
Assist the program Evaluator in the collection of data and compilation of reports
Provide regular program updates to Executive Director and School Administrators
Provide monthly program reports for the Shore Way to College Steering Committee
Coordinate college tours with school administrators, students and colleges
Coordinate with college and university partners to deliver financial aid workshops for parents
Coordinate with parents to participate in Shore Way to College activities to increase their college awareness
Coordinate with community partners to provide job shadowing/employment opportunities for students
Oversee time and attendance of Shore Way to College program staff for payroll
Complete performance evaluations for Shore Way to College program staff
Qualifications
Education Requirement: This position requires a college degree, BA/BS in a related field and at least 2 years’ experience working in a leadership role with youth in a structured environment
Additional Requirements: This position requires a high degree of collaboration.
Successful candidate will be a motivated, dependable leader with a positive attitude who is able to establish a good rapport with students, staff and parents.
Requirements include:
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to engage and inspire students
Organized and able to multi-process and complete reports in a timely fashion
Ability to manage a large program and to understand the grant process
Ability to work with agencies, businesses, and institutions of higher learning
Strong interest in career planning and preparation
Ability to use technology and to enter and interpret data
Proficient knowledge of computer software, such as, Microsoft Office products, i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
Special Requirements
Candidate must be able to pass a background check.
Drug screening may also be required.
Experience working with challenged or at-risk students in a diverse population setting is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.92 per hour
