We are seeking an Environmental Safety Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team in Coventry, RI

Position Summary:

The Environmental Safety Engineer is responsible for properly identifying, communicating and implementing environmental regulations and programs in order to facilitate environmental regulatory compliance at the Pharmaron site in Coventry, Rhode Island. This position will provide environmental regulatory guidance to facility personnel, which will instill environmental protection as a core value in the culture at the Coventry site.

Principal Duties:

RCRA/DEA Hazardous Waste Program Compliance

  • Ensure proper classification of waste in line with EPA, DEA, and Rhode Island regulations.
  • Prepare and ship waste for off-site disposal, complying with DOT regulations.
  • Handle documentation and report hazardous waste activities to RIDEM and EPA.
  • Conduct audits of waste disposal contractors and facilities.
  • Provide annual hazardous waste training for employees.
  • Oversee compliance for site excavation projects, ensuring proper soil handling and testing.
Clean Water Act Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with wastewater pretreatment agreement and Clean Water Act regulations.
  • Provide weekly wastewater forecasts and handle monthly sampling with lab services.
  • Submit results to Clariant Corporation and assist with spill and stormwater training.
  • Collect data for West Warwick Sewer Commission inspections.
Clean Air Act Compliance
  • Communicate air pollution control permit requirements to staff.
  • Evaluate new processes and equipment for air compliance.
  • Track air emissions monthly to ensure compliance with permits.
  • Manage the Leak Detection and Repair Program (LDAR)
Regulatory Reporting
  • Submit regulatory reports (SARA 312, SARA 313, RCRA, Air Emissions) and Lead Data collection
Health and Safety Support
  • Participate in process hazard analyses, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Serve as the Environmental representative on the Safety Committee.
Education and Experience:
  • 5+ years of related experience in environmental program development and implementation including: RCRA Hazardous waste management, Clean Air Act program management with emphasis on knowledge in completion of batch process air emission calculations, Clean Water Act Management, SARA 312/313 program management.
  • Experience negotiating with regulatory agencies and waste disposal contractor/vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people at all levels of the organization and regulatory agencies.
