Assists the classroom teacher to provide piano or other specified instrumental accompaniment for music classes, choral groups, vocal ensembles and soloists, rehearsals, performances, and other school activities; improvising or playing from scores as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accompanies choral groups in a variety of settings (e.g. rehearsals, concerts, competitions, auditions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring professional musical support for students and instructors.
  • Analyzes assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g. correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of rehearsal time and performance schedules.
  • Assists the teacher in supervising student activities for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of class time and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Assists choral Instructors with a variety of student related activities (e.g. records CD's for individual students, practices with individuals or small groups, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and ensuring the success of each program.
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable basis for the purpose of providing students with high quality service and instruction.
  • Consistent interaction with students for the purpose of educating students.
  • Exhibits professional and stage etiquette for the purpose of serving as a model of professionalism at musical productions.
  • Participates in team meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information and supporting District goals.
  • Provides a variety of clerical support to assigned instructors (e.g. orders and catalogues music, processes orders, checks invoices, tracks budgets, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available and accurate records are maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
  • One year of experience as a professional accompanist for soloists, choruses,dance
  • groups, or as a pianist with a recognized musical organization.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and certificate of performance or music education.
Special Skills and Knowledge:
  • Basic music theory including the fundamentals of harmony and notation.
  • Effective methods and techniques of piano accompaniment.
  • Fundamentals of proper musical sight reading techniques and methods.
  • Effectively play a variety of musical forms on the piano including classical, popular, jazz, and folk music.
  • Successfully sight read, transpose, and improvise music.
  • Sensitively reflect the mood, character, and tempo of creative dance patterns.
  • Understand and follow a variety of complex and technical oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain routine records and files.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required
  • duties.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal relation skills.
  • Manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.

SALARY: Clerical/Paraprofessional Pay Plan 3: Starting at $15.10/hr (187 days, 8 hrs/day)
