JOB SPECIFICATIONSEducation:Minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent and satisfactory completion of a training course for activity directors approved by the National Activity Directors Association. This person may also be either a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activity professional certified by a recognized accrediting body or a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.License:Certification or licensure as appropriate for each person noted above.Experience:2 years of experience in a social or recreational program.Personal Skills and Traits Desired:Good verbal and written communication skills Evidence of effective problem resolution skills Ability to maintain composure in stressful situationsResourcefulnessWillingness to consider the advice and opinions of othersAbility to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequencesAbility to coordinate and conduct meetings Ability to set and achieve goalsAbility to be organized and efficientAbility to meet deadlineAbility to train and motivate othersAbility and willingness to act as a role model in conduct and appearanceBasic computer skillsActivity Director Assigned Tasks:Provide an activities program daily including evenings and weekends.Provide a plan of activities appropriate to the needs of the residents that includes, but is not limited to:Group social activitiesIndoor and outdoor activities, which may include daily walksActivities away from the facilitySpiritual programs and attendance at houses of worshipOpportunity for resident involvement in planning and implementation of the activities programCreative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, educational programsExercise activitiesOne to one attentionPromotion of facility / community interaction, this includes verbal, written, and appropriate social mediaPrepare a monthly calendar of activities written in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to residents and visitors.Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriate.Assess resident needs and develop resident activities goals for the written care plan.Encourage resident participation in activities and document outcomes.Review goals and progress notes.Properly document MDS reports and progress notes.2. Obtain necessary equipment and supplies and provide for their accessibility through organized storage.Participate with the administrator in developing a budget.Foster family and community support of the activity program (e.g., through newsletter, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the facility, etc.)Produce a monthly newsletter for residents and their families.Use social media to appropriately promote the activity program offerings and foster positive communication.3. Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care through participation in the following:Attend Care Plan meetings.Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee.Attend Department Head Meetings.Attend mandatory in-services.Safety committee as requested.4. Physical & Sensory Requirements:Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, fine hand coordination, ability to read and write in English, ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and support agencies and ability to remain calm under stress.5. Residents' Rights FunctionsMaintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect; know and comply with Residents' Rights rules; monitor activities to ensure that residents' emotional, recreational and social needs are met; and, review, promptly report to the Administrator and maintain written records of all resident council meetings.6. On-going educationMaintain professional competence through attendance and participation in continuing education programs, seminars and professional activities and programs.
