Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA), an internationally-recognized environmental advocacy nonprofit based in Boston, MA, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our growing team. The Project Manager will work to design and implement local and regional projects focused on restoring river ecology and mitigating stormwater pollution. Job Description

The Project Manager will provide critical capacity to support CRWA’s River Restoration and Stormwater Solutions program areas by managing technical projects, performing desktop geographic analyses, compiling and analyzing data, preparing reports, and engaging with local community members. The ideal candidate will have both technical and project management skills, and be able to apply those to support and advance CRWA’s advocacy goals. The Project Manager will report to the Restoration Program Manager, and will work closely with the Stormwater Program Manager, Watershed Restoration Specialist, and other program staff.

This position is a hybrid remote/in-office position located in CRWA’s Boston office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and support ongoing and new projects within CRWA’s River Restoration and Stormwater Solutions programs

Contribute to a watershed-wide restoration plan by prioritizing removal of barriers to fish passage and identifying stream restoration opportunities

Lead projects to site and design green stormwater infrastructure, including conducting site visits, analyzing data, and calculating project benefits

Manage contracts with engineering and design consultants, including developing budgets and scopes of work, regularly communicating with consultants, and overseeing project implementation

As part of a team, organize community-led visioning processes for stream restoration projects

Prepare technical reports and documents

Present successes of CRWA’s work in the community and at technical conferences

Identify and apply for funding to advance restoration & stormwater projects and initiatives

Provide support on additional projects as necessary, including on advocacy and outreach initiatives

Coordinate with, support, and train junior staff

Conduct work in accordance with CRWA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational background and/or work experience in the fields of environmental science/engineering, environmental or urban planning, and/or restoration; master’s degree preferred

3-5 years of experience in the environmental planning, engineering, or climate adaptation fields

Proficient with GIS software and Microsoft Excel

Highly organized and detail-oriented

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

Experience writing and obtaining grants is a plus

Demonstrated strong, clear communication skills, including the ability to communicate about CRWA’s mission and work to the public

Ability to work with a diverse group of people from all backgrounds; multilingual is a plus

Past experience working with municipalities is a plus

Commitment to CRWA’s mission

Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion

Occasional travel throughout the watershed will be necessary

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: This is a full-time position based in Boston with competitive salary and benefits, including generous paid time off, employer contributions to health insurance premiums and retirement plan, and a public transit stipend. CRWA’s office operates on a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. Starting salary for this position is $65,000 annually.
