Full-Time Hours: Monday-Friday 8AM to 5PMSummary & ObjectiveThe Music Therapist uses music within a therapeutic setting to provide services for adults and children within the Hospice program. Follows the indicated treatment may include creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music.Essential FunctionsPlans and carries out a general program of musical therapy ranging from passive listening programs to participatory programs involving singing, moving, playing, or dancing, and even creating music.Consults with other members of the professional team to analyze overall needs of each patient.Assesses how these needs can be addressed by music therapy; develops and implements a treatment plan tailored to improving physical, psychological, and social health as appropriate to a client's problems.Instructs patients individually or in groups in instrumental or vocal music and projective techniques, including progressive relaxation, awareness of feelings, and projected imagery.Evaluates and documents responses of each patient to various techniques and whether these indicate progress or regression.Prepares periodic reports for therapeutic team and modifies program as appropriate.Supervises internships of music therapists as part of their clinical training program.Serve on appropriate committees internally and externally as assigned.Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.Provides clients with music therapy consultations and services.Offers passive listening as well as participatory programs that include playing, singing, and creating music.Responsible for instructing patients on techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation.Consistently able to exhibit a love of music and skill in musicianship.Deliver and lead music therapy sessions at Camp Erin twice a year.Ability to travel to any location throughout South Florida and expand territory as business needs dictate.*Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.Other DutiesCollaborating with interdisciplinary team to ascertain whether individuals qualify for music therapy.Designing musical interventions based on therapeutic goals to improve clients' psychological, physical, and social health.Providing music therapy sessions.Inviting clients to interact by encouraging them to sing and dance.Monitoring clients during musical interventions and measuring effectiveness of sessions.Recording and videotaping clients on a periodic basis to measure effectiveness and progress.Keeping records of client progress.Conducting biannual assessments to re-evaluate clients.Maintaining musical instruments.Overseeing and mentoring Music Therapist interns if needed.Responsible for on call emergencies, including weekends and holidays.Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect, and safety work practices.Maintain required mandatory skill updates.Comply with all policies, local, state, and federal laws, and regulations.Perform other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilityMay serve as an interim department leader depending on needPhysical RequirementsMust be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.DisclaimerThe job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
