Note: this position may be filled as an Engineer III or one level up as a Senior Engineer dependent upon the selected candidate's experience.

We are seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to join our team at Duke Energy located in Lake Mary, FL. As a Substation Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of high-voltage substations for power utility projects. Your expertise in substation design, high-voltage equipment application, lightning protection and grounding systems will be crucial to the success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and engineer high-voltage substations for power utility applications to include:

Electrical Layout and Section Views, Three Line Drawings, AC Station Service, Cable Schedules, Et El.
2. Ensure the correct application of high-voltage equipment and components.
3. Develop lightning protection systems for substations.
4. Design and optimize grounding systems to meet safety and performance standards.
5. Utilize CAD software to create detailed and accurate substation drawings.

6. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the successful completion of projects.
7. Perform technical reviews, analysis, and quality control of substation designs.

Requirements:

- Proven experience in substation design for high-voltage power utility projects.
- In-depth knowledge of high-voltage equipment application and specifications.
- Expertise in designing lightning protection systems for substations.
- Strong understanding of grounding systems and their implementation.
- Proficiency in CAD software for substation design.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Basic/Required Qualifications - Engineer III
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
Basic/Required Qualifications - Senior Engineer
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Proficient in electrical engineering theories and principles
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in principles of project management
  • Experience in the utility industry
