The SQE is a key technical leader responsible for working with Suppliers, Engineering, Production and Supply Chain for the selection of qualified suppliers and improvement of supplier performance to drive continuous design and process improvements at the suppliers. Classification: Full-time, exempt Location: Morgan Hill, California Reports to: Head of Quality Hours: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (flexible) Salary range: $85,000-105,000 DOE Key Responsibilities Maintain the Supplier Quality program in a state of audit readiness, compliant with GMPs and company guidelines Collaborate with the Procurement Department to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported, and the appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner Lead corrective actions as required from supplier 8Ds or non-conformance reports Lead MRB group to Root Cause Analysis, Corrective action & Proactive actions Assist Purchasing, Engineering and R&D departments in the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers and materials following a defined new product development process. Maintain Supplier Quality Metrics Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and or special projects focusing on developing working relationships with suppliers and the supply chain regarding product development and procurement of parts Responsible for investigating, analyzing, and resolving supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement projects. Act as Quality liaison for supply chain to disposition all Nonconformances related to suppliers. Complete trending and analysis of supplier defects, recurring problems, and supplier corrective actions. Review and communicate supplier requests for engineering changes or new products. Ensures reliability and accuracy of products provided by the supply base. Ensures that nonconforming material is dispositioned in a timely manner. Establish and drive a supplier corrective action process. Participates in Supplier reviews and provides input to Purchasing Department regarding supplier quality. Coordinates with suppliers all initiatives relating to supplier quality performance. Tracks performance trends and performs quality trend analysis from supplier base and facilitates corrective actions as appropriate. Utilizes lean manufacturing, error proofing, and continuous improvement initiatives to support Supplier base by assisting in development of robust processes that assures quality products and services. Provides support to customers relative to supply-based issues. Conduct audits, when appropriate, of supplier facilities and manufacturing processes to determine adequacy and capability of supplier to meet quality specifications. Directs the Supplier to perform root cause problem definition, analysis, and corrective action using sound problem solving techniques. Consults with the supplier as required. Perform Gage R&R studies and other Measurement system analysis/comparisons Ability to work in an international culturally diverse, fast-paced, and dynamic environment Back up the Quality Engineer when needed Minimum Requirements Bachelor (minimum Associates) degree in Engineering or a related field >2 years of experience in supplier quality with a quality management systems background Factual Approach to Decision making Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings and technical procedures Ability to write reports, business correspondence, to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to communicate and effectively present information to top management, suppliers, customers, etc. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference and fundamentals of physics Lead supplier visits of all quality system categories to assess compliance to process excellence Works on complex problems requiring logical analysis of a variety of data and the influences of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies to select methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Completes weekly / monthly Executive Reports for Quality, Purchasing and Business Units. Technical Background Required Project planning experience Statistics and Metrology Supplier development experience Should be willing to travel Performs scheduled and unscheduled audits of production and supplier processes to assure compliant product and processes. Desired Knowledge of ISO or equivalent quality standards Experience with Compliance Quest Fluency in one or more Asian languages will be a definite asset Working Conditions The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
