Nature of Work

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing technical advanced designs, analyzing them for form, function, strength, manufacturability and cost.

Additionally, the Design Engineer is supporting the production, or purchase of, finished products.

The Design Engineer also ensures that existing product designs are properly documented.

This position reports to Engineering but requires collaboration with sales management and outside technical resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Maintains organization over multiple simultaneous design projects. Assists with project management as needed.

· Conceptualizes new mechanical products.

· Redesigns, updates, improves and documents current products or components.

· Determines specifications and recommends components or materials.

· Communicates requirements with technical suppliers, sources components, solicits and reviews vendor quotes.

· Performs cost analysis of current and proposed future designs.

· Prepares and presents all new/updated designs for review and approval.

· Actively participates and helps manage design and R&D efforts throughout the company.

· Reviews simulations and stress-analysis calculations.

· Participates in Design for Manufacturability.

· Conducts client field site dimensioning for retrofit and new equipment placements.

· Conducts Vendor/Fabricator source inspections confirming equipment is fabricated to engineering drawings and specifications.

· Inspects existing equipment for after sales.

· Follows all safety policies and procedures.

· Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned by Manager.

· Some travel is required, and should be able to travel on short notice

Qualifications

Required Experience

· Completion of four years of college with a bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in Mechanical Design Engineering and Computer-aided drafting

· Solid modeling experience using AutoCAD Inventor for the generation of design and detail engineering drawings and other documentation, experience designing and drafting using AutoCAD for the generation of 2D equipment layouts integrated into plant general arrangements

· Basic pneumatic and hydraulic knowledge with experience using valves and actuators for machine design

· Heavy plate equipment and machine base weldment design experience is preferred

· Industrial ductwork and ventilation design with knowledge of ANSI/SMACNA duct construction standards is preferred

· Familiarity with OSHA safety standards for equipment design is preferred

· 3 years prior work experience in manufacturing environment

· Prior project experience; working on group projects

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with coworker, management, customers and vendors
