Senior Estimator

Construction Knowledge

  • Possess solid construction base and can offer creative solutions for potential construction issues.
  • Ability to estimate a projects cost at Schematic Design (SD) level.

Quality

  • Ensures project deliverables are complete and error free.

Safety

  • Recognizes need for project specific safety measures and includes costs for those items in estimates.

Leadership Mgmt. & Organizational Skills

  • Understands all team roles & responsibilities and can manage/prioritze work for Assistant Estimators and Estimators.
  • Ability to recognize and delegate preconstruction staffing needs on projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple preconstruction projects.

Schedule Management

  • Ensures input from operations group is obtained for durations included in general conditions.

Project Planning

  • Assigns project preconstruction tasks and develops timeline for completion to ensure deadlines are met.

Risk Management & Problem Solving

  • Ability to review contact documents to identify a projects constructability, logistical and schedule risks.

Finance

  • Responsible for creating the roll-over estimate as project lead.
  • Ability to create a basic cash flow forecast for a project.

Preconstruction / Estimating

  • Proficient in pricing self-perform trades, particularly concrete.
  • Works with operations in bid package development for all trades.
  • Identifies risk and constructability from review of project documents.
  • Tracks and manages estimate variance and cost saving options (VE) at every design phase.

Sales / Client Development

  • Ability to represent company in sales presentations, speaking effectively with regards to all aspects of the preconstruction process.
  • Maintains relationships with prior contacts to facilitate involvement on future opportunities.
  • Actively participates in assembling responses to potential project RFPs.

Technology

  • Ability to set-up a basic project schedule.

Leadership Strengths & Engagement

  • Participate in interviews and recruiting events (including tours & speaking engagements) as needed.
  • Report staffing changes or concerns appropriately.
  • Appropriately complete reviews and evaluation forms as required.
  • Begin to identify training/skill gaps and suggest solutions.

Education / Certification

  • Bachelor’s in Building Science, Construction, Engineering, or related degree.

Recommended Work Experience

  • 7+ years of preconstruction experience

Recommended Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Basic computer and industry specific software knowledge required. Must have the ability to plan, organize, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts. Standard constructability knowledge based on years of experience expected along with the ability to read/interpret plans, contracts, and job specifications.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Provides overall estimating coordination and strategy in pre-construction, bidding, document control, archiving, and collecting historical data.
  • Provides assistance to the project team(s) by aiding in buyout, contract issuance, and project closeout.
  • Builds and maintains lasting relationships with clients, design team professionals, and subcontractors.
  • Participates in the continual maintenance and development of related systems or technology.
  • Ensures designated project(s) are in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provides support for the recruitment of new employees.
  • Assists with any additional assigned duties.

Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office, internet, scheduling software, and estimating software; Knowledge of industry trends and innovations, mathematics, statistics, administrative/clerical procedures; Skilled in communication, defining scopes, public relations, organization, teamwork, accuracy, attention to detail, time management, and assistance of others; Able to adapt to changing situations.
