Job Summary

As the Senior Custodian-Carpet, you will:
  • Coordinate, schedule, assign and inspect the work activities for a small group of custodial employees.
  • Ensure departmental services are completed within established frequencies; while working with customers to minimize their inconveniences and maintain satisfaction.
  • Under limited or indirect supervision, perform custodial duties to cover vacancies, absences or special requests.
  • Clean and maintain assigned area.
  • Secure buildings when not in use.
  • Perform set ups, move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools as needed.
  • Under limited or indirect supervision serve as custodian for carpet crew; clean carpets and upholstered furniture using a variety of methods and specialty equipment.
  • Provide backup custodial coverage for vacant work areas.
  • Lock and unlock assigned areas, respond to customer needs and requests.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • May be required to work some overtime and vary scheduled work hours.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years of professional carpet cleaning experience required with knowledge of campus preferred. Six months supervisory experience preferred.
Skills Needed:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the supervisor and co-workers is required.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics required.
  • Must successfully complete the Building Services Custodial Development Program or be enrolled in program within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors and types of carpeting to select proper cleaning method.
  • Knowledge of campus buildings and locations preferred.
  • Good organizational skills required.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding building maintenance and security required.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Exposed to loud noise from cleaning machine; ear protection is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally required.
  • Works outdoors 10% of the time in winter in temperatures below 32 degrees.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
