  • Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: ENT: assessment, teaching/education, procedures and scheduling surgeries for patients, injections

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others. Assist in the coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures

Essential Functions:

  • Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
  • Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
  • Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
  • Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
  • Assists in the development of departmental standing orders.
  • Be cognizant of tests ordered and monitor results that are potentially suspicious for abnormality.
  • Telephone triage to include results reports, symptoms-based telephone encounters.
  • Proper cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments along with high level disinfecting of scopes.
  • Setting up sterile procedures and assisting with these sterile minor procedures in the office.
  • Specialized surgical nurse teaching instructions provided to each patient scheduled for surgery with instructions specific to the surgery being performed. This is done in person or over the phone.
  • Process lab specimens to send to the lab after the provider collects the specimens.
