SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Senior Production Fabricator operates and maintains industrial woodworking and metal fabrication machinery, ensuring the construction and Installation of exhibits that align with the design specifications established by museum exhibition teams. The Senior Production Fabricator will leverage their expertise in construction techniques and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail to produce final museum-quality exhibit components and prototypes. The role also exemplifies a steadfast commitment to safety, consistently adhering to museum policies, government regulations, and industry best practices for workplace safety. Working closely with exhibit design and technical design teams, the Senior Production Fabricator ensures components are buildable, can be constructed cost-effectively, and may review and enhance design drawings as well as provide cost estimates, stock lists, and construction specifications. The Senior Production Fabricator will sometimes be required to mentor and assist other carpenters and technical staff on projects and lead particular builds within the shop.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Fabricate and install prototype and final exhibit components according to verbal instructions and design drawings provided by exhibition team members. By applying their expertise in construction techniques and paying meticulous attention to detail, they will ensure the exhibits are well-built and aligned with the Museum's goals.
  • Safely operate and maintain industrial woodworking and metal fabrication machinery, committed to safety, accuracy, and efficiency, consistently adhering to museum policies, government regulations, and industry best practices for workplace safety.
  • Provide cost estimates, stock lists, construction specifications, and accurate timelines for construction from design drawings.
  • Maintain monthly shop inventory and process allocations, monitor material usage, and coordinate deliveries.
  • Clean, repair, and maintain shop equipment and tools to ensure they are serviceable and meet safety and industry standards.
  • Work alongside and, when appropriate, mentor the fabrication and technical design teams to help fabricate parts, install ready-built components, or work on the assembly of the kit of features to ensure exhibits are open on time and within budget.
  • Assist in maintaining the Museum's permanent and temporary exhibits to ensure exhibit safety and availability for guests' enjoyment.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties related to the fabrication and installation of exhibits, including minor electronic, mechanical work, artifact handling, and computer installation.
  • Safely operate powered industrial trucks, such as forklifts, scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and pallet jacks, to facilitate the building and Installation of exhibits. Also, in the loading and unloading of exhibit components and materials from trucks and containers to ensure resources and components are available for timely fabrication and construction
  • Develop and expand fabrication knowledge and skills by participating in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform all other duties as required by the manager and shop coordinator.
WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday ( Onsite)

REPORTS TO:

Manager, Production & Installation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Three or more years of exhibit experience.
  • Leading teams to fabricate within a workshop environment
  • Safely operating various woodworking machines, including giant commercial grade table saw, compound miter saw, radial arm saw, band saw, jointer, shaper, planer, router, and other tools such as pneumatic nailers and staplers.
  • Fabricating objects made of wood and one or more of the following materials: steel, aluminum, assorted plastics, and laminates
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and design plans
  • Creating stock lists and cost estimates.
  • Ability to operate powered forklifts and acquire a Massachusetts Forklift license within 12 months of employment.
  • Experience all engineered wood and lumber products.


STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly) $36.06-$38.46
