GENERAL SUMMARY:
Saginaw Public Schools Building Principals are responsible for managing assigned school site operations, coordinating site activities, representing the school within the community and addressing situations and resolving, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school. Building Principals are also responsible for implementing the mission and goals of the District, including, but not limited to, seeking continuous improvement of services provided, seeking to satisfy constituent needs within the parameters of the goals and District resources and providing instructional leadership to enable staff to perform their jobs to the best of their potential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of state and federal laws as it pertains to General Education and the ability to guide implementation of these statutes, regulations and rules
2. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures
3. Knowledge of technology operations and curriculum integration
4. Knowledge of management and instructional leadership principles and techniques
5. Effective interpersonal skills to provide leadership of professional and non-professional staff and to deal discreetly with parents, community groups and district staff
6. Skilled in supervisory functions such as observing staff, providing feedback, team building, and continuous improvement
7. Ability to cope with emergency situations as they pertain to the health, safety and welfare of students
8. Ability to respect confidentiality in sharing information with parents, staff and others, where appropriate
9. Ability to adjust schedules and resources according to most critical needs
10. Ability to gather information, analyze data, problem solve, and implement decisions in both an instructional leadership capacity and as a member of a team
11. Ability to communicate with all employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner
12. Ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents and the school community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as the Chief Administrative Officer and manage school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, evaluations, etc.) to maintain a safe and efficient school operation within district guidelines
2. Implement policies, procedures and/or processes as required and to provide direction and/or comply with mandated requirements
3. Attend extracurricular activities to support students and staff in all school functions and ensure continued rapport with students and staff
4. Chair building meetings to coordinate activities and ensure that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives
5. Facilitate communication between personnel, students and/or parents to evaluate situations, solve problems and/or resolve conflicts
6. Facilitate staff development and in-service programs, as needed, for all certified personnel to provide developmental opportunities and educational planning and knowledge
7. Present information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, etc.) to communicate information, gain feedback and ensure adherence to established internal controls, as needed
8. Represent the school within community forums and other functions
9. Review requests for materials and supplies (e.g. building supplies, furniture, curriculum purchases, etc.)
10. Maintain inter-school system communication and seek assistance from central office staff to improve performance
11. Maintain good relationships with all staff
12. Comply with established lines of authority
13. Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
1. Master's Degree in Educational Administration preferred
2. Two (2) to three (3) years of school/program administration experience preferred
3. Three (3) to five (5) years experience teaching preferred
4. Administrator Certification required
