We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lighting Engineer to assist in the design, execution and maintenance of the arena theatrical lighting system.

What You Will Do:

  • Operate lighting console for Suns & Mercury games, and certain special events
    • Join a team that aims for operational excellence and work/life balance while supporting at least 60 basketball games and over 100 special events annually
    • Work with management to ensure all events receive proper support while allowing for personal time
  • Work with the Live Presentation & Arena Technology teams to design exciting and effective lighting programs
    • Utilize Grand MA 3 and 60 fixtures, plus Musco arena lighting system, to build an entertaining product for fans and event attendees
    • Schedule appropriate time to design and program show files
  • Perform and/or schedule routine maintenance on lights, follow spots, motors, and other equipment
    • Assume responsibility for upkeep of fixtures, console, follow spots and motors
    • Work with rigging and lighting vendors as needed to schedule necessary inspections and maintenance
    • Assist facility operations team in the upkeep of a clean and safe catwalk
  • Support the Arena Technology department in the planning and execution of events and projects
    • The Arena Technology team is cross-trained and highly collaborative - all team members work together to ensure events are supported and projects are executed at a high level
    • The lighting engineer will be expected to join the rotation for supporting concerts and other events as needed
What We Need From Our Lighting Engineer:
  • Experience operating Grand MA 3 console
  • Understanding of DMX and lighting signal flow
  • Knowledge of electrical and rigging systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot swiftly and efficiently
  • Knowledge of and experience with lighting and rigging maintenance
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance on fixtures
  • Basic IT networking knowledge
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Experience managing vendor relationships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empasis on teamwork
  • Ability to manage your time
  • Understanding of the rigors and expectations of live events, especially sports
  • Ability to accept feedback
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of team members toward a common goal
Experience/ Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required, college degree preferred
  • Proof of touring or live event experience - at least 3 years required
  • Certification (or proof of training) on Grand MA systems
  • Completion of rigging and/or electrical safety training preferred
