Controls Specialist Reed City, MIThe Maintenance Controls Specialist supports the plant and maintenance department in its efforts to update and maintain plant electronic communications and controls in all areas. These areas would include but are not limited to office area, processing, production floor, equipments, Utilities, and inter-plant communications. This position requires a self-starter with a high degree of initiative, as these services are necessary and critical to the growth and success of the Reed City Yoplait plant.
Shift hours:
- 8-hour shifts
- 2nd shift 3p-11p, Tuesday-Saturday 5 days
- Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Pay:
- $40.36 per hour

What your day will look like:?
- Complete all work in a safe manner
- Ability to use Maximo computer software to manage work processes.
- Controls/Electrical troubleshooting of packaging, processing, and plant utilities
- Expected to participate in all phases of automation systems life cycle including design, development, test, installation, startup, and support
- Committed to the development, application and enforcement of plant and corporate standards as it relates to control and automation systems.
- Serve as the plant expert in control and automation technology and must be willing and able to train others in this technology.
- Ability to work on plant wide data acquisition systems, Ethernet communication systems, packaging, processing, and Utility related communications and controls system
- Work to improve the reliability of plant equipment across all platforms
- Maintain and troubleshoot packaging, processing, and utility equipment.
- Conduct/Execute scheduled preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and other work assigned by the Maintenance Team leader, Controls Engineers, or MTechs
- Conduct/Execute scheduled equipment rebuilds and/or support as needed
- Support and participate in continuous improvement tools and processes (i.e. Autonomous Maintenance, Specialized Maintenance, 5S, Why/Why, etc.).
- Maintain and Troubleshoot Plant PC Control systems and MMI/HMI, TV systems, Control and Process valves, Flowmeters, Charts, etc.
- Maintain and Troubleshoot Milk Receiving, Batching equipment, and process controls including storage, transfer systems, Vat Set and Cup Set systems
- Plant HVAC and Refrigeration systems.
- Train a "Back Up" electrician to cover vacations and absences.
- Other duties and systems as directed.
What you have to offer:?
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years experience as Industrial Electrician or Electronics & Controls or similar
- Experience in practicing advanced methods in the application of PLC, Motion and Drive controls, and SCADA Systems
- Experience with device and information networks, sensors, and other instrumentation to automate manufacturing systems. (Including DeviceNet, ControlNet, EtherNet, DHRIO, and TCP/IP)
- Must be able to lift, move, push, pull 50 lbs. as needed, with or without accommodations
- Strong electrical and controls troubleshooting abilities.
- Good computer skills, Outlook, Microsoft tools, Excellent communication skills and ability to partner/communicate with peers and Team leaders as needed
- Strong commitment to professionalism and customer service
- Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as but not limited to safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, hair/beard net and gloves as and when required
- Ability to occasionally work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
- Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms with or without accommodations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in related field
- Previous experience in a production or food manufacturing organization is a plus
- Experience with Fanuc, Bosch/Indramat, Beckhoff, and Wonderware controls is a plus
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software
- Experience with Allen Bradley VFD system.
- Experience with Allen Bradley motion control drives and servo systems.
Physical requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
- Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
- Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
- Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
- Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
- Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
