HP Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Software Engineering to spearhead the transformation and modernization efforts within the Software & AI Transformation team. This leader will oversee multiple teams of software engineers dedicated to developing new and innovative tools aimed at increasing overall productivity. These tools will be prototyped, tested, and then rolled out across the company over time. The role is pivotal in driving community building, performing build vs. buy analysis, integrating third-party solutions with internal systems, and ensuring regular program updates. The position requires developing detailed plans and roadmaps, tracking progress, and ensuring successful transformation outcomes. Responsibilities: In this role, you will lead and inspire multiple software engineering teams dedicated to developing new tooling and prototyping third-party solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement strategic plans and roadmaps to achieve the goals of the software engineering transformation program. Fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement will be key to your success. A critical aspect of the position is community building. You will work to build and nurture a vibrant engineering community, promoting knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional development among team members. You will conduct thorough build vs. buy analyses to determine the most effective and efficient solutions for the business, evaluating third-party solutions and overseeing their integration with internal systems to enhance overall functionality. Collaborating with cross-functional teams will be essential to ensure seamless integration and augmentation of third-party solutions to meet specific business requirements. Effective communication is crucial in this role. You will ensure regular updates on the progress of transformation initiatives, communicating complex technical concepts and project status to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Additionally, you will manage a program within a matrixed organization, tracking progress against key financial targets and ensuring alignment with business objectives. This role requires strong change management skills to guide the organization through the transformation process. Developing detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, will be part of your responsibilities. You will track progress against these plans, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure successful project completion. Financial analysis and tracking progress against the roadmap will be essential to maintaining focus on the program's objectives and delivering measurable outcomes. You will be responsible for achieving financial targets while collaborating with groups that do not report directly to your organization. Qualifications: To be considered for this role, you should have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, along with at least 12 years of experience in the software engineering field. A strong track record of managing complex transformation programs in a matrixed organization is essential. You should have proven experience in leading and motivating engineering teams, with strong analytical skills and experience with build vs. buy analysis. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Required Skills: The ideal candidate will have familiarity with AI and machine learning technologies, demonstrating a deep understanding of how these can be applied to drive innovation and efficiency. Knowledge of modern software development practices and tools is essential, ensuring the team leverages the latest methodologies and technologies. Furthermore, a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels will be crucial, as the role requires extensive collaboration across different departments and teams. Locations: This position offers flexibility, with opportunities to work out of Austin, Texas; Houston, Texas; or Fort Collins, Colorado.
