Custodian (Weekends)

SHIFTS AVAILABLE: WeekendsSaturday - 7:00am-3:00pmSunday - 12:00pm-6:00pm POSITION SUMMARY: Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities. In addition, every position in the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y's core values - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. CORE FUNCTIONS: Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, vacuuming, and general cleaning. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed. Ensures Y building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment. May set up furniture for events. Reports for duty in professional and timely manner. Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities. RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:There are no education requirements. Six months or more of related experience preferred. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. Basic understanding of upkeep and care of equipment. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be exposed to cleaning and chemical compounds, cleaners and solutions in dry, power, spray, and aerosol forms. Will work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Frequently required to talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, or crawl. Use of hands and fingers. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the organization.
