Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a focus on battery thermal management systems for battery electric locomotives. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading cost reduction and material deflation projects, utilizing advanced methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs within the scope of locomotive thermal management systems. Key Responsibilities: Lead and execute cost reduction initiatives related to the battery thermal management systems used in battery electric locomotives. Utilize established cost-out approaches like Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST) and Should Cost Analysis to identify viable cost reduction projects. Coordinate with Sourcing and Manufacturing teams to discuss and implement cost-out strategies on locomotives. Manage and follow through with cost-out projects, adhering to the companys design review process. Select appropriate metallic and non-metallic materials for coolant piping, connections, and support structures. Develop Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and create Verification and Validation plans for assigned projects. Conduct and support validation activities in accordance with company processes, ensuring successful implementation in respective labs. Lead and manage cost-out projects, including design, analysis, validation, and production launch. Collaborate closely with internal and external suppliers to address product change requests, quality concerns, and shop support. Support manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure high manufacturability, making necessary drawing and model updates. Manage work assignments with moderate to high complexity, meeting short-term objectives and resolving issues efficiently. Prepare and present technical data to internal and external stakeholders. Document and communicate test and analysis results. Participate in teams assigned to specific organizational initiatives. Promote open dialogue and share information across teams. Prepare invention disclosures to protect proprietary technology. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on liquid-cooled thermal management systems. Proven experience in designing piping systems for engine cooling, power electronics cooling, or battery cooling systems. Strong knowledge of packaging requirements for high voltage equipment. Proficiency in heat transfer techniques, including conduction, natural convection, and forced convection. Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools. Proficiency in finite element simulation tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys. Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities. Capability to work in heavy industrial manufacturing and laboratory environments. Ability to set up instrumentation and test apparatus and conduct validation testing on large industrial vehicles. Compensation: The pay rate range above is the base hourly pay range that Aditi Consulting reasonably expects to pay someone for this position (compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to, a candidates qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, location and end client requirements).
