Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Senior Communications Engineer to join our World Class growing transit systems practice in Jacksonville, FL. This unique and exciting position offers the opportunity to work in a developing practice with great growth opportunities, while receiving support from a global system practice which leads the nation in transit systems design. This is a part-time remote position reporting to our Boston, MA office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop detailed Communications sub-system designs specific to Transportation systems such as fiber optic and IP backbone networks, radio systems, integrated communications systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, intrusion and access control, SCADA, etc.
  • Produce system design deliverables such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, bill of materials, radio and optical link budgets, and others.
  • Generate design reports for all phases of system design. Author test procedures and reports in support of design verification and validation during the project life cycle.
  • Assist in performance of needs assessments, economic and technical system assessments and contract negotiations.
  • Produce Issued for Construction drawing and document packages. (AutoCAD, VISIO)
  • Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings, and final reports.
  • Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.
  • Manage and lead Systems vendors until final delivery. Interface with other technical disciplines such as Power Supply & Distribution, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, Trackwork, Civil and others; including coordination and design of Systems interfaces, both physical and functional.
  • Support the management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Lead technical interactions with clients, operators, and other major stakeholders for short term assignments.
  • Manage and deliver technical training of client staff. Support the authoring of project plan documents. Support cost estimates, project schedules and budgets. Perform technical review of other team members designs.
  • Participate in project pursuit efforts.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior personnel as part of team development.
  • Working with existing and potential clients to identify potential projects.
  • Participation in teaming and go/no-go decisions for potential projects.
  • Manage client project lifecycle phases including planning, engineering design, stakeholder management, bid negotiation, construction oversight, and project management.
  • Construction Engineering Support on infrastructure projects.
  • Providing oversight and direction to enable projects to be completed on time and on budget.
  • Assisting in the sequencing and grouping of projects.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering plus six years or more of demonstrated equivalency of experience in engineering and operation of telecommunication systems for transit and railroad.
  • Valid Drivers license and as a condition of employment, pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 20 years of relevant experience in design of systems for rail and transit systems
  • Experience in design of one or more of the following: IP backbone networks, integrated communications system, passenger information systems, telephony, guideway and track intrusion detection and fence intrusion detection.
  • Experience participating in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management and Operations & Maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards applicable to rail projects such as IEEE and others.
  • Accustomed to operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for Communications sub-systems design.
  • Initiative-taking and able to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Able to lead discussions with senior project staff, partners, clients, and suppliers.
  • Able to multitask due to concurrent projects.
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Open to occasional traveling but primarily work remote.
  • Senior level engineering experience in a wide range of communication applications with solid transit experience
  • Experience supervising aspects of a project of significant scale and/or complexity, application of standards, managing of resources and technical knowledge.
  • Experience delivering designs and reports at all stages from concept through to final project and construction delivery.
  • Demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen coupled with experience seeking and securing new opportunities.
  • Ability to take specs, design concepts, and create proposals and quotes preferably who can create a new approach to the bid process.
  • Familiarity with alternative delivery (e.g., P3, design-build)
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally, and the ability to manage and mentor engineering teams.
  • Demonstrative experience in complex communication design and review, supervising aspects of a project, application of standards and technical knowledge.

position is $80,000. to $149,000.
