Job Summary:

Supervises the daily operational activities of the internal sales mortgage lending staff to ensure all origination activities are processed in compliance with secondary market guidelines, portfolio guidelines, lending policy, state, federal and Credit Union regulations.

Leadership:
  • Liaise with HR and OD to recruit, onboard, develop, and retain high-quality staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely one-on-ones and performance evaluations.
  • Effectively coaches, mentors, motivates, and manages the staff to ensure delivery of communications to employees in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining the Credit Union's high standard of quality.
  • Ensures that the department fosters a productive, rewarding work environment that provides for the development of employees; meets all established goals and metrics; and operates within the Credit Union's core values.
Main responsibilities:
  • Directs the workflow within the department to ensure efficient, accurate and timely completion of duties.
  • Develops and trains the mortgage lending employees' sales, service and lending skills to support and enhance employee and member loyalty and meet Credit Union goals.
  • Executes mortgage sales plan to achieve departmental goals and expand the mortgage membership base.
  • Implements and reinforces the adoption and usage of end-to end sales program, business processes, systems, and technology through observation.
  • Maintains mutually beneficial partnerships with industry related representatives to enhance the member experience and provide future business opportunities.
  • Assists with the development of Mortgage Department policies and procedures.
  • Plans and coordinates meetings regarding assigned departmental projects and programs.
  • Conducts regulatory research, apprise managers of upcoming regulations and legislation, and provides opinions and advice to management on regulatory matters affecting real estate lending.
  • Helps compliance area on issues related to mortgage lending.
  • Disseminates regulatory information and changes to policies and procedures to Mortgage Center staff as it affects their area(s).
  • Completes all steps required to register (and renew yearly) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Ensure all personal data is kept up to date with the NMLS.
  • Serves as a member of the Credit Committee in setting loan amounts according to policy and in the approval/denial of loans. Request additional information when necessary to make decisions regarding a loan. As needed, review and make decisions on loans that exceed the underwriter approval limits.
  • As needed, perform all duties of a loan officer.
  • As needed, reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet Credit Union and regulatory standards. Analyzes recommendations from loan officers and help determine minimum and maximum loan amounts, setting additional conditions if necessary. Reviews titles and appraisals for final approval and to verify that all final conditions have been met.
  • Reviews appraisals for approval or exceptions, per policy.
  • Prepares reports as needed for the officers.
  • Educates and advises members on such matters as appropriate financial planning, policies and rates. Calculate loan payments and determine loan to value (LTV) and best means of financing.
  • Strives to exceed the Credit Union's sales and service goals through the development and maintenance of member relationships. Develop these associations further through cold calls and follow-up. Cross- sell consumer and commercial products to members when appropriate.
  • Assists the Mortgage and Marketing Department with Select Employer Group (SEG) development. Help with on-site visits to foster relationships with real estate brokers/agents and garner referrals. Assists Marketing Department with development and review of materials.
  • Participate in SLFCU mortgage seminars, GAAR, Realtor on Duty and CU Realty functions, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Familiar and comfortable with information technology, particularly digital means of communication.
  • Strong organizational skills in managing multiple initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills; able to communicate lending-related topics clearly and succinctly to others.
  • Able to train others effectively.
Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of the secondary market and advanced proficiency with all mortgage portfolio products.
  • Strong understanding of laws and regulations governing lending and financial institutions, as well as thorough knowledge of SLFCU lending guidelines.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum four years' experience in mortgage lending with one year of leadership experience or related experience
  • Minimum associates degree or certification/license in mortgage or business administration, or related field, or more than fours years of related experience.
  • Must pass and maintain requirements for SAFE Act and NMLS Registry requirements

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Frequent travel

Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
