Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Onsite, Dearborn, MI

Long-term contract

A leader in modern mobility solutions is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to automate current vehicle manufacturing processes for Industry 4.0. You will create and rollout automation strategy, simulate new environments, and coordinate internal and supplier relations. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Ability to support launch programs on extended travel to suppliers in Southeast MI.
  • Strong Project Management skills and result-oriented mindset.
  • 3D CAD review abilities (Teamcenter, VisMockup, CATIA, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles.
  • Ability to operate in stressful situations with minimal supervision within timing constraints.
  • Working knowledge of statistics (control charts, data collecting, GD&T etc.).
  • Experience in Body Shop, Welding, Stamping, Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience with automotive assembly or machining tooling, processes, and facilities.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • The role of the Automation Engineer is to develop final assembly tooling for all programs while being embedded at the tooling vendors.
  • Buy off tooling ensuring capability of flawlessly producing to requirements in JPH, FTT, and quality.
  • Lead weekly Tier I supplier status meetings at assigned supplier facilities.
  • Utilize a matrix for tracking design, build and install issues with resolution timing.
  • Track tooling timelines from Supplier via MS Project.
  • Interface with Advanced Feasibility team to ensure design inputs into required DVAs are accurate and use DVAs and other statistical tools to drive tooling design.
