This is a senior project engineering role which includes engineering and project management responsibilities varying based on the type of project you are working on. You will work on different types and sizes of change engineering projects in the form of workpacks. Broadly, you will be responsible for costing, budgeting, project managing and delivering workpacks on existing and upcoming products to Ocado automated warehouses on a global scale. A workpack is a scope of work that upgrades a particular category of product which either enhances operation and/or enhances the safety.

As an important part of the project team, you work closely with different internal and external stakeholders, changing with the type of project, including for suppliers for both goods and services, and Ocado's internal departments such as Programme Management, Product Development, Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics and Operations to successfully deliver these workpacks.

Additionally, as a senior engineer, you are also a key contributor to your team and department's delivery. In this role, you will be a go-to person in your team, with deep expertise, strong problem solving and knowledge sharing. You will be working with others to find great solutions and taking an active role in decision making across your team and department. You will be responsible for identifying process improvements, championing implementation of best practices across the team, supporting team leaders in driving the team towards delivering goals, and mentoring junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pulling together input from various stakeholders within the business i.e. Product Management, Product Specialist, Product Development and Supply chain,ensuring products, product changes and the associated impact to new and existing sites are understood and implemented seamlessly.
  • Develop workpack plans to apply product upgrades at sites in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, i.e. consolidating where appropriate to maximise product uptime.
  • Defining the level of impact for each site, develop workpack plans and coordinate the rollout of workpacks with various installation teams across international sites.
  • Creating detailed cost, budgeting and rollout plans of workpacks at scale across various international sites across different global regional territories.
  • Working on team improvements with a focus of process improvement and automating tasks along with some data analysis work to help develop better tracking and reporting of workpack rollouts.
  • Support regional install teams during workpack deployment phases with engineering related issue resolution.

Key Attributes:
  • Technical and Commercial Acumen: You have the aptitude to debate both technical and commercial topics, challenge expert opinions, and influence others effectively. You have excellent technical and practical engineering knowledge (mechanical and electrical) including design, production, installation, commissioning and testing. You are able to read, understand and work with 3D models of site designs, drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Project Engineering: Expertise in managing engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring all technical and functional requirements are met. Strong ability to develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, to ensure projects are completed on schedule to budget and quality.
  • Stakeholder Management: Adept at managing stakeholder relationships both internal and external, setting realistic expectations, and ensuring alignment between project goals and stakeholder requirements.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project objectives, updates, and requirements to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills to interpret project data, generate reports, and make informed decisions to optimise project performance.
  • Dispute Resolution: Skilled in identifying and resolving conflicts promptly and effectively, maintaining a positive and productive working environment.
