JOB SUMMARY: Directly assists in meeting the health and educational needs of the students autonomously under the direction of a licensed specialized education staff and licensed registered school nurse (RN). Administers first aid for acute health conditions, assists in managing students with chronic health conditions, and provides medical interventions needed during the school day. Additionally, assist students with curriculum, implementing programming, generalizing learned skills and behavior strategies. Assist staff by preparing materials, monitoring & recording student achievement and progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. They do not encompass a comprehensive inventory of the obligations and responsibilities fulfilled in this role. The approximation of frequencies and time allocation percentages are flexible and subject to the requirements of the organization. 1.

Provide routine medical and emergency care for students and staff as well as triage, first aid/urgent care, and routine interventions for ill and injured students in the classroom in accordance with state regulations, scope of practice, district training, and emergency care guidelines. This includes providing technical physical care for students with medical needs such as tracheostomy care and suctioning, diabetes medication administration, care and utilization of gastrostomy tubes, catheterization, mandatory reporting, etc.

Maintain consistent charting of health records and collect data to support health-related needs and interventions during school.

Assist students with classroom activities, including adapting the curriculum to individual student needs under direction of an SSP. Implement student accommodations, supports, modifications, procedures, and programming outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Assist with curriculum delivery to both individuals and small groups to ensure the generalization of skills.

4.

Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior for individual student needs. Assist in verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis interventions to reduce the risk of self-harm and harm to others. Assist student development of social interactions and communication between students with special needs and general education peers.

Share information with school stakeholders that meet the needs of individual students and families while respecting the values, beliefs, traditions, cultural influences, and circumstances of a culturally diverse population and communicate with parents/guardians via phone and/or email as necessary.

Assist with multiple student needs to include toileting assistance, feeding assistance, and mandatory reporting if necessary. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. Follow standard precautions, hand hygiene, and respiratory etiquette.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of healthcare, medical, fitness, or related work experience
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, computers, email, etc.
  • Intermediate knowledge of community resources
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of health clinic equipment that provide objective observations
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills, including professional telephone and email communication
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful and/or volatile situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA

  • Ability and willingness to provide basic custodial services in health clinic

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position

•Licensed/Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic Technician

•Colorado driver's license

•Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification required within the first 30 days of employment

•Qualified medication administration personnel (QMAP)/medication administration training required within the first 30 days of employment

•Non-violent crisis prevention and intervention (CPI) training required within the first 60 days of employment

•Training on any necessary delegated nursing procedures required within the first 30 days of employment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.
