CMM Inspector/Programmer A

Function
•Plan, perform, and direct coordinate measuring machine (CMM), Faro Arm or other electronic data collection equipment appropriate to the product, inspection operations on vendor and in house manufactured products and machined parts.
Typical Responsibilities
•Follow general instructions, complex drawings, machine manuals, special instructions, and
standard inspection methods and procedures for selection of characteristics required for
computerized inspection programs.
•Write complex non-menu driven inspection programs from all available information including
two dimensional drawings, three-dimensional solid models and other source materials.
•Interpret 3-D solid models.
•Review product drawings for specifications, select starting points, sequence of operations,
write complex, non-menu-driven programs, and correlate with Manufacturing Engineering on
more difficult programs and any required validation.
•Make all necessary mathematical calculations, use coordinate measuring machines and
precision measuring equipment such as surface plate, rotary head, etc., to perform first piece
inspection on a variety of products and to verify three-dimensional-source programs for
inspection use.
•Perform NC tape and process verification inspections including tool and fixture proving.
•Perform 3D analysis of inspection data to CAD Master Data.
•Regularly advise and work with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and vendor
representatives concerning discrepancies of parts/tools not meeting required specifications
and quality control standards.
•Finalize inspection results, maintain computer program file and complete all paperwork as
required.
•Enter e-NMRR's into system.
•Direct and train seldom over 10 other inspectors or inspector/programmers on coordinate
measuring machine operations, associated inspection methods and procedures, and
resolution of any questionable deviations.
•Responsible for recognizing when coordinate measuring equipment is in need of repair and
for coordinating periodic maintenance.
•Perform operator checklist as required.
•Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
•Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator required upkeep.
•Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
•Perform other related inspection duties as directed and refer only unusual or recurring
problems to Working Leader or Supervisor.
Basic Qualifications
Requires a broad knowledge of inspection methods and procedures, layout methods and the use of coordinate measuring machine and associated precision equipment.
Ability to use advanced shop mathematics, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry and interpret complex part drawings and specifications. Also requires courses in CMM programming, and working knowledge of CAD systems and 3D modeling.
Equivalent to four years of technical training and specialized courses in multi-dimensional programming.
Over 5 years or equivalent Sikorsky experience.
Desired skills
•5 to 8 Years of Programming experience, any language, at least 2 years Calypso.
•Demonstrated advanced knowledge of GD&T and drawing interpretations.
•Demonstrated advanced ability to program in at least 2 CMM programming languages utilizing high level tools such as conditional logic, looping, and variables.
•Demonstrated ability to understand complex 3,2,1 CMM programming alignments in Calypso.
•Demonstrated through understanding and ability to utilize iterative and bestfit part alignments in Calypso.
•Experience with software control best practices such as revision control and storage protections.
•Ability to develop basic automation scripts.
•Advanced knowledge of CMM components, operation, and maintenance.
•Advanced knowledge and experience with manual inspection gaging and setups.
•Thorough knowledge of 3d modeling software (Catia and 3DX).
•Effective strong communication skills, written, oral, listening, technical writing.
Proficient skill level with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
