ms consultants has an amazing opportunity to be part of our growing energy business. We are seeking an energetic and driven self-starter to serve as a technical lead under the direction of the Energy Business Unit leader.

This position will begin by co-working with ms Leadership to grow the energy practice in the Power & Renewables sector and will be responsible for execution of the substation electrical scope. We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer interested in a role focused on business growth and technical project management.

The location for this position is flexible, but occasional travel to client sites domestically. The ideal candidate for this position can be based out of any of our office locations and we are willing consider someone remote depending on the right candidate.

What You'll Do:

The Engineer will collaborate with coworkers and clients while utilizing the most current technical software and techniques to manage the Scope, Design, Schedule, and Budget of multidiscipline projects.

  • Creating engineering designs and scope for substation projects and confirming documentation and support is available to necessary personnel. Possible items including conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding layout, general arrangement, equipment specification, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control & relaying schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient with substation physical and/or protection and control (P&C) design and a familiarity with industry standards.
  • Capable of leading complex substation projects with a multi-discipline team from preliminary design through construction, including technical details, bid evaluation, schedule, drawing review, and construction support.
  • Preparing bills-of-material (BOM) and equipment specifications to procure required equipment and materials for a substation project.
  • Preparing supporting documentation for engineering permits when necessary.
  • Directing technical personnel to gather and record data for substation design projects.
  • Analyzing engineering issues, structures, equipment, etc., and recommending appropriate solutions and alternate design options.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Power System Software, Microsoft Office, and CAD.
  • Knowledgeable with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Proven experience in a substation electrical engineering role.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be able to manage "multiple projects simultaneously" and be able to work effectively.
  • Ability to support numerous locations, must be willing to travel across the U.S for business.
  • Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, unforeseen field problems and demands on time for work assignments outside of the normal duties.
  • Must have strong people skills and develop and maintain relationships across ms, with outside firms and vendors that further facilitate the cooperation needed to complete assigned tasks and that will inspire others to achieve, or exceed, goals.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in teams to coordinate designs with other ms areas of responsibility.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal skills and writing skills, providing comprehensive project status reports, clear and concise correspondence, and accurate information.
  • Must possess strong organizational, computer, and critical thinking skills.
