FUNCTION

The Mutuel Department Supervisor is responsible for verifying internal monetary transactions to protect company assets and provide excellent customer service. They will also assist with all administrative functions in the Mutuel Department when the Mutuel Manager is not available. This position reports directly to the Mutuels Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibit strong knowledge of the Mutuel procedures in large-scale operations, including but not limited to verification of all cash exchanges and conversions, counting, verifying, and signing for banks assigned, maintaining accurate records, operating equipment, performing Mutuel duties as necessary or assigned, and accomplish all tasks as appropriate.
  • Address difficult circumstances that may arise with Mutuels in a constructive, professional, and business-like manner; satisfy miscellaneous guest complaints, balancing the interest of the customer, employee, and company. Refer to the appropriate supervisor when necessary.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of pari-mutuel wagering (e.g., reading tickets sold, tote keyboard, and basic racing terminology), including all aspects of racing (types of wagers, availability of simulcasting, and wagering offered at the various tracks).
  • Ensure administrative functions of the Mutuels Department and shifts are maintained.
  • Train Mutuels personnel in the proper techniques of their position.
  • Investigate and follow up on variances.
  • Prepare management reports and other documentation and give oral/written presentations.
  • File and compile spreadsheets using computer terminals and standard office equipment.
  • Assist with projects (e.g., develop timelines and evaluate results).
  • Work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of money handling, counting, and complex mathematical skills.
  • Adhere to departmental procedures, safety rules, health regulations, and Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) rules and regulations.
  • Build relationships and loyalty with guests through sincere and meaningful interactions (e.g., learn guests' names and preferences; connect with them individually and professionally; smile; make eye contact and verbally greet guests from arrival to the property through departure; and provide fast and friendly service to guests).
  • Be a team player (e.g., work toward team goals and foster a collaborative and positive work environment; put the team first; assist coworkers; treat all coworkers with kindness, courtesy, and respect; never engage in negativity; maintain openness to coaching, learning, and improving; be receptive to change and willing to embrace challenges with team spirit).
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of services, room locations, amenities, and surroundings (e.g., gift shop, restaurants, Sky Theater, etc.), providing accurate directions and information for guest inquiries about promotions and special events.
  • At all times, maintain a courteous, positive, and professional working relationship with all Ellis Entertainment personnel and the general public (e.g., coworkers, clients, and vendors).
  • Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance, including odd and unusual hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of leadership experience, with pari-mutuel and cash-handling experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have a professional attitude, and have strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid license through the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC).
