Role Summary The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for advancing Subarus artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) initiatives that enhance vehicle safety and automated driving capabilities. Operating with minimal supervision, this role combines deep technical expertise with strong project oversight and cross?functional collaboration. Approximately 30% of the work involves hands?on programming and 70% involves project management, technical leadership, and coordination. The Senior Software Engineer develops and evaluates AI algorithms, assesses software feasibility, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and ensures compliance with automotive and regulatory standards. The position also plays a key liaison role with Subaru Corporation (SBR) in Japan, requiring a higher level of interaction and influence than typical software engineering roles. Major Responsibilities Artificial Intelligence (AI): Design, develop, test, and maintain AI software applications that integrate with Subarus existing systems. Software Engineering: Develop high?quality, efficient, and scalable software solutions using various programming languages and frameworks. Machine Learning Model Development: Develop and train machine learning models using various algorithms and techniques to improve Subarus autonomous driving capabilities. Support leadership and presentation: Prepare progress updates for upper?level management and facilitate product demonstrations for Subaru Corporation (SBR) and Subaru of America (SOA) executives. Support team collaboration: Provide preliminary reviews of technical reports, software code, and other technical work submitted by engineers of lower-level seniority. Additional Responsibilities Collaborate with engineers from various disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical) to ensure successful integration of software solutions and meet Subarus quality standards. Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in AI and software engineering; share information with team members to foster continuous learning. Required Skills & Personal Qualifications Proficient with Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) Proficient with VSCode Proficient in Python Experience with machine learning, computer vision, and data annotation Experience with CAN protocol (Vector CANalyzer) Proficient with CAD software (Solidworks, Fusion360) Experience with 3D printing (FDM, SLS) Experience with ADAS development, testing, and evaluation Analytical and conceptual thinking; creative and strategic skills Strong communication skillsinterpersonal, presentation, written Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Valid drivers license for test?driving tasks Preferred Skills Any level of Japanese proficiency. Familiarity with Subaru vehicle development cycle. Education & Experience Requirements Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a similar field, or an H.S. diploma with an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 46 years of relevant work experience (with a bachelors degree) or sufficient experience; or at least 24 years of relevant work experience with a masters degree. Work Environment Hybrid Role: Remote work 2 days per week (after 90 days). Internal work environment: Prolonged sitting at desk and computer. Physical demands: Occasionally lift and move computing equipment up to 20 lbs. Travel required: 20%. Compensation The recruiting base salary range for this full?time position is $85,000.00 $122,000.00 per year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job?related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
