Description
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for sustaining an effective support structure by managing daily clinic activities and assisting in the examination and treatment of patients including all medical emergencies under direction of medical provider in an outpatient clinical setting of Boone Memorial Hospital, Inc. (BMH). The MA will perform routine technical duties and assist with other related activities involved in providing patient care in compliance with hospital standards, as well as federal, state, and local government regulations

The MA, under the supervision of a licensed medical provider, is expected to perform the following essential functions:
Clinical Functions
- Professionally assist providers, staff, visitors, and patients.
- Register patients according to established protocols.
- Maintain and manage patient records.
- Provide basic patient care or treatments such as but not limited to taking vital signs, the application of sterile dressings, and prepare patients for medical tests and examinations
- Accurate assessment of patient and collection of past medical history.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Assist physician with examination and treatment.
- Recognize emergencies.
- Perform First Aid.
- Collect and process specimens.
- Perform blood collection procedures.
- Perform waived laboratory tests that assist with diagnosis and treatment.
- Screen and follow up on patient test results.
- Prepare and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injectionsincluding vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider.
- Transmit prescription refills as directed.
- Maintain medical records.
- Perform EKG.
- Assist in minor office surgery.
- Obtain vital signs.
- Filling Out Insurance Forms.
- Filing Patient Medical Records.
- Maintaining the Confidentiality of Patient Information.
- Managing inventory and ordering supplies.
- Scheduling Patient Medical Procedures.
- Following Up on Patient Visits.
- Updating Patient Charts.
- Ordering Lab Tests.
- Billing Patients.
- Working with Insurance Companies.
- Managing Petty Cash.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Ability to perform various motor skills such as standing or sitting for long periods of time, walking, lifting (up to 50 pounds) using proper lifting techniques, stair climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, grasping and arm-hand coordination on a continuous basis.
Travel required
- None expected.
- High School Diploma and certificate from Medical Assistant program at a credentialed facility.
- BLS Certification (Preferred)
- Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
- EMR Service, 1 year (Preferred)
