As the Controller, you are responsible for overseeing the construction and development accounting functions of multiple internal companies by bringing a high level of expertise and experience. This position will report to the CEO and will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. Participation in all levels of operations is required, but not limited to, the following: accounts payable and receivable management, payroll and insurance management, required government fillings and financial analysis and that all functions are timely completed, and records are maintained at the highest standard. To be successful in this role, you have experience leading, hands on knowledge in accounting functions, you are adaptable, and you have the ability to coach. Responsibilities

  • Our Corporate Controller will work with the CEO to implement strategic initiatives
  • Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable etc.
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies, procedures and processes
  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
  • Complying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
  • Establish (in coordination with CEO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Create and implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions
  • Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field, preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting
  • Knowledge of or accounting experience in the construction, excavation, paving, or heavy highway industry or projected base accounting, highly preferred
  • Experience in public accounting preferred and/or Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)
  • Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software/QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel or other system knowledge
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Able to work well with senior leadership and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
