Russell Tobin & Associates is currently seeking a Direct Procurement Buyer to work for one of our top biotech clients We're seeking an experienced Direct Procurement Buyer proactively manage the performance of raw material suppliers to ensure the Material Requirement Plan (MRP) can be realized effectively.
Pay: $35-$39.50/hr. depending on experience
Location: Vacaville, CA 95688
Responsibilities:
- Ensure relevant Procurement Master Data is maintained in SAP for accurate MRP calculations and effective PO creation.
- Support Category Manager and Strategic Buyers in implementing supply strategies.
- Resolve invoice queries in cooperation with Accounts Payable.
- Align with category strategy and sourcing instructions to meet site-specific stakeholder requirements.
- Lead communication of status, progress, and action plans with site and global stakeholders.
- Oversee strategic purchasing of materials, ensuring compliance with cost, delivery, and quality standards.
- Conduct RFx processes and negotiate with suppliers (local, regional, global) according to global category strategy.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned categories in alignment with global category strategy.
- Monitor compliance and lead actions to prevent performance issues, ensuring the supply of direct materials.
- Manage vendor performance, including on-time delivery, quality, and compliance issues.
- Resolve vendor returns (RMA, Cost Recovery, Replacements) and manage AP inquiries.
- Drive cost optimization projects to improve operational efficiency and reduce material costs.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparent communication on procurement activities.
- Address site/region requirements for materials, aligning activities with global category strategy.
- Perform benchmarking of supplier and product portfolios to maintain competitiveness.
- Lead and support local, regional, and global projects, coordinating the implementation of strategies.
- Ensure compliance with local and global policies, procedures, and standards.
- Meet KPIs and targets without impacting production.
Skills and Competencies:
- Purchasing Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of standard concepts and practices in Purchasing.
- Technical Understanding: Ability to read and interpret documents such as material masters, material specifications, material drawings, and vendor certificates. Identify assembly versus components of an assembly.
- MRP Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of various MRP types and their impact on inventory levels.
- Communication Skills: Ability to write routine correspondence with vendors and accurately describe technical or material master discrepancies.
- Numerical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Education and Experience:
- Experience:
- Minimum 4 years experience in buying/planning aspects of an integrated ERP environment, preferably with SAP.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Purchasing and Vendor Management.
- Supply Chain or Material Management experience, with spare parts knowledge a plus.
- Education:
- Associates degree preferred or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications:
- Professional certifications (CPIM, CSCP, ISM, APICS) preferred.
